Character(s): Edwin and Edwin
Content: Getting the lay of the land
Setting: Airport terminals
Warnings: Some violence and blood

Edwin had never been one to sleep in. He woke by some unconscious internal cue, a clock that said he slept enough even in this unchanging place. It was a familiar struggle not to open his eyes as he woke, that subtle wish for complete blindness and a freedom from the pain and struggle of his messed up vision. He took one of the no-longer-needed bandages off of his healed wounds and wrapped it around his head instead to cover his eyes. The blood stains must look quite a sight, but his body felt as well as it ever got these days, stiff from the scars but strong and capable.

Rising from his nest of bedding, Edwin took up his cane and decided to survey his present location. If some of the other inhabitants of this land came seeking him, they could use that journal device. Sierra had shown his to him last night, mysteriously just there in a pocket. All the keys had raised letter in his original arabic, clear enough to be outlined by his secondary vision and distinguishable by touch.

The concourse appeared empty in the area in front of the gate, but Edwin thought he heard movement echoing down the hall. He had food from Robin, but truthfully, he needed to find a safe place to relieve himself and his current "house" would not be the place to do that. He opened the gate and slipped outside, making sure to tie it down again loosely once he was past it. No need to invite in troublesome house guests in his absence.

The atrium was full of wildlife, not ideal for this quest, so Edwin struck out in the opposite direction. He could sense the eyes watching him from down some of the terminals, but this far into the depths of the airport, the density of animals seemed a bit lower. His footsteps and the click of his cane on the tiles echoed loudly, a hollow lonely sound that drew interest from those shadowed gazes.

Edwin sighed as the cat-like creatures stalked out of their den in the mess of fallen chairs. He drew his sword slowly, walking towards them and incanting:

"Gaze upon the Promised Land, oh Children of Fallen Flesh. Raise yourself on Flowing Breath, Stare into the Eyes of Doom, and Loose Reality."

Lights sprung up around him, darting like fairy fire and the cats paused, staring entranced. He closed the distance between himself and the unmoving beasts and then spun, slashing down with well-placed blows to finish off the creatures. They howled and died, the lights fading as the last fell in a spray of blood. Edwin wiped his sword on his pants before resheathing it, muttering as he did so.

"...I still need to pee."
