Rory eyed the array with a furrowed brow, certain that such an imperfect circle couldn't properly conduct the energy required for the transmutation, but sure enough, Hex was setting to work with it, and Rory bent to get a better look at the process. It was pitiful that he had vetoed such a useful practice, even if it were to go on to more advanced and progressive work; how could he not have seen that his understanding of the fundamentals would be so imperative? There was much he had to learn, and that meant a trip to the past to retrieve what little of the facts he did remember...

He wanted to shudder at the thought, his skin itched with it, felt pulled too tight, and a scowl darkened his face as he quickly shook it off, refusing to be overtaken by fear of something as harmless as a 'memory'. It was incidental. It was pointless, until he deemed it otherwise. Useless information cluttering his brain that he'd have to sift through to find what really mattered for the moment. An abundance of knowledge was to be accessed there, if only he could-

With a sharp turn of his head, Rory suddenly realized, as he looked upon the placid concentration on Hex's face, that there was something he, too, needed to come to understand, not only for his benefit, but for all of them. For that shy, broken boy in particular that was just learning to carry himself with something other than shame and guilt.

"Even if there are fewer runes," Rory said quickly, trying to measure out the conversation accordingly until it was time to move on to the more serious subject matter, "why are they spaced so far apart? Does that not dilute the energy? But I suppose with a larger array you need the anchoring points to be placed within it in a structurally sound manner..."
