The sounds from outside, and from other people moving about the base, were lost on Sierra as she sat. For all her posture- back straight, legs crossed at the ankle- she might have been reading a news paper, but her fingers flashed across the keypad of her journal, spurts of activity followed by moments of silent contemplation, and then long streams of typing followed by more of the previous. Her expression ran the gamut, from puzzlement, concentration, frustration, to joy, intensity, and elation. All provoked by the code scrolling across her screen.
As the base slipped into a night-cycle, still she sat, illuminated by the glow of the furnace and the little screen in her hands. Every once in a while she murmured softly to herself, but she made no others sounds save the occasional shifting in her seat.
Her little robot sat still and silent, its hoverglobe junctioned with a charging station, and a wire leading from between its optical sensors to Sierra's journal.
