After having stayed the 'night' at the Library, the Flicker seemed to decide that it was again time to set out on the last leg of their journey and visit the inhabitants of the Fountain. They had now been walking for several hours in the open red light of the city. They had been told that the Fountain was only about an hour away, but that didn't account for all of the random encounters their general loudness drew to them.

These encounters weren't actually so much of a problem as they were an inconvenience. The Flicker seemed to be freely able to become incorporeal and Ni'ci was able to fly out of harm's way when she wasn't instantly scooped up by the Flicker or Robin, and Robin, of course, could simply change his location or hide in a vine. They did not actually have to kill any of their attackers during their trip, as most became frustrated and flustered and left after a few attempted assaults.

Most parties probably would have decided that they should be more stealthy about their movements, to avoid such attacks, but it did not seem to even occur to any of the three. Robin had just stared into a new song as they turned a dog-leg corner down a new street.

'Come all ye maidens young and fair
And you that are blooming in your prime!
Always beware and keep your garden fair!
Let no man steal away your thyme!

'For thyme it is a precious thing!
And thyme brings all things to my mind!
Thyme with all its flavours, along with all its joys,
Thyme, brings all things to my mind!

'Once I and a bunch of thyme,
i thought it never would decay!
Then came a lusty sailor
Who chanced to pass my way
And stole my bunch of thyme away!

'For thyme it is a precious thing
And thyme brings all things to my mind!
Thyme with all its flavours, along with all its joys
Thyme, brings all things to my mind!

'The sailor gave to me a rose,
A rose that never would decay!
He gave it to me to keep me reminded
Of when he stole my thyme away!'

It was sung with unnecessary volume, but none the less in a pleasant voice, and as he finished, Robin contemplated whether to pick a new song or try teasing the Flicker some more.
