Setting: The Airport

Absol lay at his trainer's side, watching the red wasteland before them, head held high and glaring at the semi-dark. It didn't like this place, and Katsu was out cold and hadn't responded when he'd been nudged. Hopefully, no other Pokémon would come along and decide they were easy pickings.

Absol turned immediately when it heard Katsu cough, and stood on all fours to nudge him again.

"Sol... abs, absol."

"Mmh? Hey, what're you doing out of your Pokéball?" Its trainer pushed himself up on all fours, checking over the remaining five red-and-white balls on the bands at his wrists. All of them were still there, and Absol's Pokéball wasn't far away, sitting open.

"Absol abs!"

"This... what? This isn't... we were on Route 209 last, weren't we? But... where are we now?" The boy looked around, but didn't recognize anything in the broken buildings and jagged concrete. Just that this definitely wasn't the way back from Solaceon City.

A scrabble came to his ears next, and he looked over at the strange rat scuttling on all fours across the ground. It halted and looked up at him, its eyes glowing dim red in its skull-like head.

"Hey... is that a Pokémon? It's not like anything I've ever seen before." Katsu reached into his pocket as Absol took a step closer to him, head lowered and growling. He'd intended to pull out his Pokédex, but instead, something else met his fingers, and he drew that out instead and opened it.

"And... this isn't a Pokédex."

The rat-like thing stared at them, but Absol obviously didn't like it. The Pokémon's blade glowed dully, and in an instant, it launched an attack that had the rat running for cover.

Katsu sighed, and crossed his legs where he sat on the ground. "Thanks, Absol. I guess I should figure this thing out. Maybe there's directions on how to get back to Jubilife City from here."

"Sol! Absol abs!"
