Once the two teams heading for the base had been seen off . . . )
Simera, alternately, was prattling off questions like a curious child again, though even Ana was beginning to understand that outward appearance and behavior could be completely deceiving. It was cute, unnerving, and yet in light of everything they'd come to face so far, it seemed damn near normal by that point. She'd also, mostly during sleep, come to the conclusion that either one of two things were true - one, Simera was a kind of homunculus, but a benevolent one, as she'd done nothing to harm -them- so far, or two, she wasn't, but had a lot of similar traits to one, and either way was obviously an ally rather than a threat.
Realizing her thoughts were aimlessly wandering all over the damn place, Ana gave a quick shake of her head and glanced up again, seeing the tall brownstone-like houses getting nearer.
"Yeah, we're going to the jar-house," she said with a light smile at Simera, "You remember which one it is, right? We need to get more stuff so we can make soup and other food."

When they got there she dropped Micas' hand and scrambled through the window, like she had the day before, to raid the pantry.

But the streets seemed quiet. Almost eerily so. Micas found herself wishing for the sounds of insects and little birds, leaves in the wind.
