I couldn't sleep as usual, and ended up randomly stumbling upon
andLinux. It's a more or less full install of Ubuntu Linux(Kubuntu, really) that runs inside Windows. It's interesting, because it uses a Windows driver to run all privileged operations for the Linux kernel, meaning it's not emulated, i.e. not too slow. Even more interesting from a usage perspective is that they integrated the Xming X server on the Windows side, and took advantage of X Windows network capability to run Linux GUI applications inside Windows, indistinguishable from normal Windows apps. You can use Synaptic to install any Ubuntu software you can run in a normal Linux install and use it from Windows. Kind of crazy.
Of course, after setting all this up, I have no idea what I'd actually do with it. It basically gives all the usability of Linux with the reliability and performance of Windows, so it's not extremely practical. But man, is it cool.
In less geeky news, I got a really nice little apartment in Belmont that I was really hoping for, so that's nice. It's really pretty and well-designed. I'll have Maria take some pictures when we move in. I also got a raise, which means I might be able to buy furniture. I got the raise because my boss just resigned and we're missing like half the ops department at work right now, though, so work is going to be exciting for a while, I think. We'll see how that goes.
In slightly more geeky news, I got a PSP from work, too, which is really, really cool. I can play Symphony of the Night and Disgaea in my car at lunch now. I haven't even started Final Fantasy Tactics yet.
