So as I'm logging off I get a message from a friend back home asking if I can call. Naturally, I tell her "Sure, I can call for a few minutes before I go to bed". So I walk across the camp to my pod, get my phone card, and come back to the internet cafe. I then find out that AT&T cards don't fork on the cafe phones. you have to have a special card from this Segovia company. Now I walk to yet another corner of the camp to the MWR tent to use the free phones. There I find the phones dead with no anticipated "Time of Resurection". So now it's back to the cafe to buy a new phone card and get on the phone. Apperantly its "National Fuck Rodney Day" cause the company who makes the special phone cards has had their contract CANCELLED.
Here's the end result. Can't buy new cards for teh phones at the cafe. That leaves 3 phones for THE ENTIRE CAMP to call home with. How fucked up is that. These companies squable over God knows what and now soldiers all over the Middle East, who risk their lives on a daily basis, CAN'T CALL HOME AND TALK TO THEIR FAMILIES!!!
I'm facing two options here: one, I wait in line for the free phones...or two I go look into the cell phones sold at the Hodji shop. I'll probably go with number two. I'll wait around untill the shop opens up and go pick up a phone. If I plug it in it should be ready to use by 6am tomorrow when I can call my friend.
The only consolation here is that something...a hunch maybe...tells me that she may be worth the extra effort.
S Out.
