Beta’d: By my friend Hazel who without her, you’ll be reading trash.
A/n: Sorry I missed last week guys. This was supposed to be posted last week, unfortunately my beta went MIA and I kind of forgot to attach the file when e-mailing it to her. So it took longer than usual. Well here it goes. I'll be back next week again.
Sewers around the world were dark, damped and disgustingly filthy. Infested with rats and roaches to the thousands, they were otherwise never inhabited. The pungent stench emitted also contributed to yet another reason why they were often not a memorable place for one.
Although the sewers in Sunnydale were the same, what was unusual about it was the number of living creatures that were found there. Creatures of the night lurked within the shadows of the streets, seeking refuge within the sewers when dawn breaks.
The Master gazed around the darkened sewers and all that whom served him. He was going to rule the world soon and at his command, darkness would flow through the streets as easily as the sewers.
In order achieve this feat; he must destroy the slayer, followed by the pesky childe of Darla’s. The Master did not want to meet anyone who stood in his way, and for those unfortunate souls who did, they would be eliminated mercilessly.
He turned to his childe to his right and demanded, “Are you sure Angelus would come for him?”
Darla let out a chuckle. “Oh I’m sure he’ll come for him. Probably die for him even.”
The Master smirked wrly at his truly devious plan. Angelus would die whether by him or Darla, he would die and then it would be like chasing down rats to kill the slayer.
“Then we shall begin.”
* * *
The blond girl and the sandy-haired boy tread carefully across the eerily silent school hallways, each of them clutching a cross with shaky hands. They were trying to save their friend before the poltergeist would get him, or them both.
“Mike?” the girl called hoarsely, glancing around and shivering as a ghostly chill ran past her.
The boy tugged her closer to him, fear evident on his face.
“I think we should go,” the boy whispered urgently, looking around frantically.
“No Pete, come on, Mike is our friend,” the girl hissed back, trying to sound brave for their sake.
Without warning a dozen doors slammed shut, each ending with a loud resounding ‘Bang!’
Then, silence ensued.
“Boo!”
“AHHHHHHHH!”
Xander screeched loudly and immediately jumped from his position on the floor, his heart pounding vigorously. He flicked his head and pointed furiously at the laughing blonde maniac crouching behind the sofa.
“That. Was. Not. Funny. Spike!” Xander cried out fumingly, angrily punctuating each word.
The blonde vampire just continued snickering. “Should have seen your face pet, makes me wonder whether you actually patrol with the Slayer.”
Xander glared at another figure, who although was preparing a mug of ‘red fluid’, he could clearly see the smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.
“Angel!”
“What?” Angel answered a little too innocently.
Xander rolled his eyes and relaxed himself back on the sofa. “You saw him and didn’t warn me,” he pointed out, pouting.
“Didn’t want to disturb you when you’re so engrossed,” Angel replied, shrugging while taking a sip.
Xander was pretty sure the reason Angel kept his mouth shut was to pay back the hours he tortured the elder vampire by staying out late after dark and having to put up with his cliché scary movies.
“Honestly pet,” Spike teased after his laughter died down, “No idea why you watch all these crappy shows.”
“Like you’re one to talk,” Xander muttered under his breath, unfortunately heard by him.
“Hey Passions is a classic show!” Spike defended indignantly and Xander noted the accent change little when he mentioned that. A little more…classy.
Right, Spike classy? Huh!
Xander ignored him instead and quickly glanced at his watch. “Shit. We’ve got to go Angel. Giles said that he want us there by 7.30,” he hastily scrambled up from his sitting position.
Angel nodded his head as he finished the last of the mug’s contents.
“Let’s go then,” he said heading towards the door.
“Enjoy your Scoobie meeting,” Spike called out mockingly as they both left through the front door.
Despite Xander’s lack of vampire hearing, he could clearly hear Spike muttering, “Scoobie. First Buffy then Scoobies? Hellmouth brats.”
Xander was about to retort before a hand slammed the door shut. Xander glared at the hand.
“Sometimes I think you ask Spike to stay because you want him to annoy the hell out of me,” Xander accused.
“Believe me, wanting Spike to stay is probably one of the last things on my list,” Angel replied as they both trudged down towards Sunnydale High.
Xander eyed Angel suspiciously before abruptly changing the subject.
“You know, I finally came to a decision,” he announced.
“Oh?” Angel asked amusedly raising one of his eyebrows.
Xander was pretty envious he could do that. Apparently Spike could do that too. It must have come along with Angel’s lessons 101 together with the coat swishing technique.
“I’ve decided to give up on chasing Buffy. I mean honestly, I suppose she is way out of my league,” Xander sighed looking straight ahead, unaware of the sudden flash of golden eyes from Angel.
“Hmm? What made you came to this decision?” Angel questioned casually, trying to mask his interest and curiosity.
“Well…she doesn’t really notice me you know. And since they always say if you truly love someone you would let them have what they one hence I’ve decided that she should truly have what she wants. And you my friend, is what she wants,” Xander babbled on. “Of course since you’re also my friend, I should let you have her.”
Angel shook his head. He wondered whether Xander was truly oblivious or just watched too many movies.
“So,” Xander said, suddenly stopping in his tracks. Angel stopped as well looking back at him. “You two shall have my blessings.”
Angel sighed heavily. He seemed to be doing that a lot these days ever since he met the younger boy.
“I assure you Xander, I’m not interested in Buffy in the romantic sense.”
Angel tried his hardest to stifle his laughter, as Xander seemed puzzled by the very idea. It was as though he couldn’t comprehend why his precious Buffy didn’t interest him much less anyone else.
“Come on, we’re going to be late. Don’t think Giles would appreciate it if we do,” Angel said before he started walking.
He couldn’t help but smile as Xander followed him with a determined expression. He knew it was going to be a long walk to Giles house.
And he knew he would enjoy every second of it.
No more brooding for the souled vampire.
