Merry Meet all! I'm your typical lurker-come-poster. I'm unsure if I've actually written an intro on myself before, but if I have or haven't, it's about time I say something since I've been commenting here & there on all sort of entries.
I'm 31, from Eastern Canada & married to an Australian who emigrated to Canada just to marry me. :) I first became interested in Wicca when I was in university 12-13 years ago. At that point my mother and I had had numerous conversations about how I felt like what I had dubbed, a "spiritual vagabond". I had a moral compass. I treated others kindly and knew what I wanted. But living in the country, I felt more at ease and more at peace when I was sitting alone in the woods that I did when I was hauled off to church. I liked the people I went to church with - being a small community they were either family or friends so there was never any ill will. But when I was younger, I just didn't get it. I knew that there was a deity, a higher power, but I didn't think "God" was it. And I especially didn't like how organised Christianity was. I finally was able to make this clear to my mother (as she, my brother and I were the only ones who went - my dad was allowed to stay home) and from the age of 12 was not forced to go to church any longer.
Our house was nestled on a 2-acre plot where we would grow lots of our own veggies, & pick fiddleheads in the spring if we went down the brook. We were surrounded by trees on all four sides. Trees across the road, and trees all around the house. I had so many 'hiding' spots in and around these trees. I would sit in there, and climb trees or just look for wild plants and talk to the squirrels and rabbits. Sometimes, I would just talk because no matter what, I always felt like someone was listening. In university, I was introduced to Wicca and felt instantly like it had all the puzzle pieces my puzzle was missing.
It took a few years, a lot of researching on other religions (because I wanted to be certain) but after my parents revealed to me that they were "naturists" (aka: nudists) I felt that we had a common foothold - a respect for nature - that would act as a starting point in my telling my mother that I was Wiccan. I had tried once, a few years previous and my mother shunned it as "evil" and that was that, so this time around I was incredibly nervous, but it went extremely well. She understood! What a relief that was!
I am open about being Wiccan, make no qualms about anyone knowing my religious path. I wear my pentacle as others wear crosses to work. It honestly, has never been an issue for me, and I am grateful for that.
In the meantime, I've been doing a lot of research on local native plants - the ones my grandmother would always call 'weeds'. I'm keen on their historical & magickal lore, what they were used for, what their properties are. I do plan on having an extensive herbal grimoire at some point - just need to find the time.
Aside from that, I absolutely love, love, love dream interpretation. :) I think it's so amazing that when you dream one thing, it can mean something totally different.
Anyway, I think I've rambled on long enough.
Merry meet, again everyone, and merry part!
