It's finally raining. Oh, how I've been waiting for this all week. My room has been so hot and stuffy its unbelievable! Apparently we inmates at the psych ward aren't allowed to have air conditioning in our rooms. Grrr. But hopefully now it will cool of some and I'll be able to get a decent night's sleep.
Anyway, apart from the awful heat, this week has been pretty good. Let's review it in detail:
Tuesday I had Spanish and my poetry seminar. When we got to Spanish our teacher told us that we wouldn't be having class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from now on, even though we were scheduled to have it every day, because those were the days we would be having time for our class's online activities. So that was pretty cool to learn. And my poetry teacher is really funny. I'm pretty sure he's French, and he is SO quirky. He does a lot of flailing his arms when he really gets into talking about something, it's great to watch. And he seems pretty nice too. My phone went off during class though. Twice, actually. It was my mother calling, with her separation anxiety. I was really embarrassed, I'm sure my face looked like a beet.
On Wednesday I had my other two classes: ceramics and Japanese. Ceramics seems like it's going to be a lot of fun. It's been a long time since I've had an art class, and I'm really anxious to get started. I'm not good with drawing or painting, but maybe pottery I can do. And Japanese...well, that class is going to be the coolest thing since sliced bread. I definitely won't be falling asleep during that one. Really, it's a different animal all together from Spanish. Spanish is going to be mainly learned online. Japanese is immersion. They hardly speak any English at all, so you really have to pay attention to everything that is going on. I love it! And not only are we learning to speak it, but to write it too. Yeah, all those crazy characters and stuff that look like chicken scratch? I'm learning it! YAY!
And today, my poetry teacher decided that we're going to try to avoid crossing picket lines to get to class, so he held class outside. It was so nice! We all just sat around in a big circle on the grass in the shade with a light breeze, while he lectured about the epic poem and heroes and gods and the history of poetry...seriously, it was straight out of Dead Poet's Society. I'm excited for this class.
But I still need to make new friends on campus. I've been working on it. Becky in 308 wrote on my board so I'm going to go say hi to her, but otherwise the other people that I've talked to have ended up being PSEO students still in high school and not living around here. So that's what I get for trying to be social. But I'm sure I'll meet some new people very soon...the people in my Japanese class seem promising.
Have you ever tried to ride your bike through an army of striking secretaries? Don't try. It's ridiculously difficult, and those of us who had to to get to class almost died in the process. I'm all for them getting raises, just get the hell out of my way when I'm trying to get places. Jeez.
Alright, I'm tired. Night.
