Yes, otherness is bad. Unfortunately, it's also a survival thing (because it would be extraordinarily naive to accept absolutely everything and everyone at face value, as they would then most likely try to eat you, and then you wouldn't survive long enough to mate. Sorry.)
Obviously, though, I agree with what you and Andy have said: the problem is, how do you distinguish between those who were born the way they are, and those who choose to be the way they are? And for those who make the choice to be the way they are (which applies to everyone, anyway), how do you distinguish between the ones who made "bad" choices and the ones who made "good" choices?
Do you embrace everyone, exactly the way they are? Can you only embrace part of them? Is it selfish to refuse others, if they appear to be a threat? Should that only apply to those who seem to make choices that intentionally hurt other people? Or does that make you like "them"? So many questions, so few answers....c'est la vie, m'cherie...c'est la vie....
