The yearly or so rant about manga and anime that no one was waiting for

Apr 05, 2015 16:36

Is it just me or is the English and German speaking manga culture going down the drain? Again? A major German publisher announced their new manga licenses for the winter 2015/2016 last week and there was not One Single Shoujo Manga. What the fuck? I mean, I've been ranting on and off for ages about the publishers first licensing shitty manga and then whining if no one reads them but still. What is wrong with them? I mean, I'm not even talking about the brainless German anime distributors anymore. They always rant about how no one buys their anime (or watches them on their ridiculously overpriced on-demand channels) and blame it all on the evil fansubber-pirates but, um, did they ever consider their licensing policies? Junketsu no Maria? Military? Shinmai Maou no Testament? Girls and Panzer? Are you fucking kidding me? And no, licensing the dull waste of time that Shounen Hollywood is isn't going to change that. Where is Akatsuki no Yona? Or at least Kamisama Hajimemashita, either season? Yeah, thought so. Fuck you. We're all used to that by anime distributors in Germany but usually the manga publishers listen to their audience. People on the forums and boards have been clamoring for Akatsuki no Yona, Oiran Girl, Ozmafia (which I personally think is boring) or Tsubasa World Chronicle for ages. And what do they license? Golden Time. Corpse Party Blood Covered. Hitsugi no Chaika Back To School. LOL NO YOU ASSHOLES YOU WON'T SEE A SINGLE CENT FROM ME! I mean, I don't mind them not licensing Tsubasa 2 because it's licensed in English and I don't really care whether my manga are in English or German; the only problem is that with the current $:€ parity US manga are becoming outrageously expensive these days but if it wasn't for the price I wouldn't give a damn.

Yes, I could log into the German publisher forum and vent my anger and for the first time in almost a decade I almost felt like doing exactly that but unfortunately I don't remember my password and besides, it would all be pretty useless anyway (also, there is Mia. No, really. Still alive and kicking. Does anyone on my German f-list remember her? Maybe she wouldn't remember me. But then, she might). But I vote with my wallet and yeah, I suppose I'm going to rely on manga aggregators a lot in the next few months. For now there is exactly ONE new manga in both English and German I'm going to buy and that is Momochi-san chi no Ayakashi Ouji and in German the gap between the volumes is 4 months! On the other hand that saves me tons of money. And if it's that what the publishers want (and obviously there are enough people buying the brainless shounen-horror shit and the ever-same school-romance bullshit they license all the time) they are going to get it. Hello, Mangago, here I come!

And while I'm at it - looks like the glorious shoujo anime times are over again *sniff*. Although there is still hoping that there will be a second Akatsuki no Yona season in the near future (I mean, they introduced Zeno in the very last episode! That screams "Hey, look, here is our important character for the NEXT season, see you then!". Right?), I won't hold my breath.

I have to admit though that the other two series I follow(ed) every week were Assassinating Classroom and Yurikuma Arashi ^^;; And I just finished watching the first episode of Arslan TV. I still weep for the pretty pretty designs of Kamimura Sachiko (which in turn were based on the illustrations of Amano Yoshitaka) =( What did they do to Arslan and Daryoon (oh god, Daryoon ><;;). And Farangis (who came up with that hooker-outfit?! Did they ever read the novels? Or at least the old anime and manga?). And Gieve! The only one who still looks decent is Narses but he is probably the designated pretty boy with ambivalent sexual preferences of the series. All that makes me really fear for Hermes. I don't want to see what they did to him (I mean, the preview was bad enough. Black hair? He isn't supposed to have black hair, that's sort of a plot point, you know? ~_~). Also, I lament the lack of new mecha this season. Don't tell me I will have to marathon the more recent episodes of new Fafner Exodus or Gundam Reconguista (which, however, improved a lot lately) to catch up so I can have my fix of spaceships.

OK, that's it. I'm done whining. Next I'll probably watch the new UtaPri. At least I know exactly what I'm getting into =)

Damn catnip cushion. Why can't the damn thing come up instead of him going down? But then, that'd be too much effort. I know how that feels, Plüschi...
