Yay, pretty! I was wondering how you were going to deal with the text plastered over the lower half of Ritsuka.
Ah, figure skating... I get all excited about it every few years or so, but not this time. (It's harder when you don't have ESPN or wherever you can find it now.) But also, I really dislike Plushenko. It's probably irrational, and only based on the previous Olympics spin of old-guard-Yagudin versus post-modern-Plushenko, but, I dunno. He's just weird, from what I've seen. I miss Ilya Kulik. D:
It wasn't so bad this time. I only had to do a little masking here and there and almost no re-drawing (which I hate doing without a tablet and I currently don't have one). I'm glad you like it :)
Here you can watch every competition in Eurosport but the problem is that the World Championships are often in the US, Canada or Japan which makes it basically impossible for anyone in the Central European Timezone wo watch if there's school or work. This year it was in Sweden, so we were lucky :)
Yeah, Plushenko was a little weird but he was also special. He was the first to introduce certain quadruple combinations in the program and he is one of the few men able to perform the Biellmann spin. But speaking of Ilya Kulik - I really wonder what's wrong with Russia. They used to dominate figure skating. These days it's a miracle when they get a bronze medal O_o
Ah, I've seen him do the Biellmann spin before. It was scary. v.v But yeah, I guess you can't deny that he's special, just perhaps not always in a good way. I'll give him the quad combos, though. The technical challenge in men's programs has gone way up lately, and it's cool. (On the other hand, it seems like the women actually backed off last Olympics, which sucked
( ... )
Well, unfortunately since 2005 the Russians haven't won a single gold medal in the World Championships and their last big success they had in the 2006 Winter Olympics. And then nothing (OK, their pairs are still great on a European scale but not the single skaters. And in this year's World Championships they got pwned).
I never read the manga but I watched the anime. I liked it and I guess it was even more successful after Shizuka Arakawa won the gold medal in the same year the anime ran :).
Yup, so I guess the 2006 Winter Olympics would be the last time I watched figure skating. ^^;; I bet all the people I liked (from then and 2002) are pro now.
The anime was good. The manga is better, especially since the volumes corresponding to the anime are written from Tazusa's perspective. She's so much fun. I finished watching it right around when Shizuka Arakawa won, which was a nice counterpoint. (I get the feeling the author never intended to write more books after the first two. I mean, after that it's just a straight figure skating series -- no more supernatural stuff. And the first two volumes were called "Short Program" and "Free Program". After that, she started making them up. Things like "Double Program", "Little Program", "Lyrical Program", etc. But hey, I like the characters and the writing, so I won't complain.)
Hmm, next year's Worlds are in LA and possibly during my spring break... *schemes*
