somebody wrote jesus love notes all over campus. normally, this wouldn't bug me so much, but being extremely atheist and freedom of religion, the fact that i couldn't go to class without seeing 'jesus loves you' written on the ground in front of me made me a little pissed. on top of that, the genius who did this wrote 'jesus forgives you' in front of hamlin, the all male dorm on campus. i'm not sure if this was done intentionally or if i even got the right phrase, but obviously i interpreted this as a shout out against homosexuals. obviously not everybody who lives in that dorm is gay, nor even chose to live there, but fact that that phrase was written outside of that particular dorm bugged me a whole lot. it might as well have said, 'jesus forgives you for being gay, and if you're not gay, jesus forgives you for living in a dorm where all men live so even if you say you're not gay, you obviously are because you're living there.'

i really just hate it when religious freaks decide that they need to spread their message to those who do not want it. i know, freedom of speech, but this is a public university, which means that we are not affiliated with ANY religion and therefore should not have to have it thrown into our faces because somebody decided that today was the day to chalk jesus messages all over campus. last year when the people with the banners started handing out flyer's and preaching on the campus lawn, they were met with hostility from those around them. is this their more subtle way to try and spread the word of god?

i think one of the reasons i'm so obviously anti-religious paraphernalia is because i believe that if one wants to seek out religion, they should do it on their own terms and not have it thrown into their faces. i believe that a lot more people might seek out the church if it was not forced on them from the institutions that they are a part of. even though our government claims the separation of church and state, it also claims freedom of speech, which contradicts itself. in a huge way. i don't really know where i'm going with this right now, but i think what i'm trying to say is that as much as those people have the right to try and spread their religious views, i have the right not to see it. so there really isn't a common ground and this debate is never going to end.

and i apologize if the five people who might read this journal get offended by my wording.
