You know it's just a big-budget movie about furries, right?

Star Trek just lost in the Visual Effects category to Avatar.

I no longer have any faith in humanity.

wtf

dude, from a technical standpoint, avatar was a groundbreaking new form of visual effects. as much as I obsessively love star trek, its amazing effects were simply stellar examples of current technology. and lens flares, for "mood." haha. avatar may be a shitty example of storytelling, but that's not what the award's for. just sayin'. now if you tell me avatar has won anything related to its plot, then I will happily diatribe and ream that movie, which for the record, i still enjoyed seeing in theater (because of the visual effects).

No one asked you, Ms. Technical Standpoint, and I invite you to inform me why I should care over tea soliandxpyne March 8 2010, 04:57:17 UTC
No, no, my main point of contention is that, personally (from what admittedly little of Avatar I have seen, all from commercials and the like), I feel Star Trek's vfx were far superior--mainly due to the fact that, sure, it's a million times easier to get away with "awesome looking" effects when your entire universe is intentionally, high-saturation technicolor-y unrealistic.

Personally, I find the idea of vfx good enough to look like you're actually in mother-effing outer space to be more impressive than fx good enough to look like you're Matrix-style plugged into a super-responsive video game. >:/

Also, 'diatribe' is not a verb, it is a noun.

This has nothing to do with the rants and the validity thereof, but watching the Soliandxpyne acct argue with itself is awesome. It's like a virtual Moebius strip. ;D I can feel space and time bending. You guys rule. :D

I have no opinion either way on ST vs Avatar (except Avatar is an incredibly stupid story), but both looked like eye candy to me. (I know, fence sitters suck. ;D )

Haha, you should have seen the look on my face when I first saw the line, "from a technical standpoint, avatar was a groundbreaking..."

I was like Who is this bitch getting all snotty with me?! Oh, it's...me. LOL
