LOL don't press harder with an H pencil, because the line won't get darker, it'll just carve your paper. X) my primary method of drawing is the under-over method, which means I draw a loose gesture drawing to get the basic pose down, then I refine the body shape and erase/replace an oval head with a V-shaped jaw, a cylinder arm with elbows and biceps and triceps etc. Then, once the drawing is pretty much done in pencil, it is this still quite scribbly, very faint figure. Next I go over it in pen, refining the lines and making it much less sketchy. Once the pen is dry, I will often erase out the 8H, but because it's so light, I really don't have to. In theory I could do this with a softer pencil, but softer pencils are more likely to stain the paper, smudge, and their darkness obscures the image when I draw a part multiple times in nearly the same spot to try and figure out how it looks best. But you're right, if I were intending to do a pencil drawing, not a drawing to be inked, I wouldn't have much use for an 8H.

Eeep! Buy a new 5B stat!! Don't let this happen to YOU. haha and yes, same here!! My sketchbook's gotta have a ring binding, a hard cover (preferably smooth), and it's gotta have bright white paper, acid free, and a smooth, high pressed grain good for fine lines. I'm familiar with the European sizing system, but we don't use it over here so I'm not sure how big A3 is. Sketchbooks around here tend to be sold in 9"x12" size, so that's what six of mine are. It's a good size for me cuz any bigger and it wouldn't fit on my scanner. XD And then I have two 5"x7" baby sketch books and a few other odd sized ones. It's not difficult to find my preferred sketchbook, but it's a bit expensive. Around $15. So I often settle for soft backs, and then I nearly destroy them before I've filled them up. :'<

Ack! yeah, between my laptop, Soli's laptop, my printer, soli's printer, soli's scanner, my photoshop CS2 and her photoshop elements, it can get confusing! I hope you figure out the scanner issue. ♥ ♥ ♥

haha scribbles = good! X3 I'll have to check that vid out! I recently downloaded a screen capture movie maker thing courtesy of sarubaby so i may soon make a movie of my next color project. :d

definitely! why do they even make the other kind?? X) tooth is good for painting, but I prefer smooth for pencils and markers. although I agree that a fine parchment and ink (I best like sepia, black, and green<--blame Harry Potter for that one, lol And I bought some of each color ink in Rome) is somehow just exquisite. ooohhhhhhhhhhkay, you want to oogle some fine papers? check out www.orientalartsupply.com and www.paper-source.com. that stuff is QUALITY, trust me. ♥
