Monitor is on the fritz, which is somewhat aggravating, because it's only about a year old. Currently have the PC hooked up to the television in the living room, which (all ideas to the contrary) is both uncomfortable and inconvenient. Since I can't find the receipt for the monitor and the store I bought it from is now out of business, I'm pretty much S.O.L. for claiming any warranty and will need to buy another. Not terribly pleased.
Had the good fortune to meet
shadrone and
mystcbrd for lunch as they traveled through town on their way to Atlanta. Their company is always nice and always welcome. Hope the remainder of their trip is both safe and enjoyable.
Later,
falfox and I met a friend at the local private girls' school for a dance performance (friend is a teacher, there). It never fails to amaze me how talented and expressive kids can be if you give them enough space and encouragement to be so. I'm simply sad that, like myself, so many kids will go without the kind of amazing opportunities which have been afforded to those girls. I'm glad some kids receive those opportunities, but it isn't enough.
Watching dance performances always makes me miss dance, however. Yes, I used to dance. What? In any case, it was nice, but a bit frenetic this year. Less traditional, more modern interpretive--which is all fine and nice, but it poses a challenge for the observer to discern talent, latent or otherwise, in the dancer(s) when their movements are 1) in large 'uncoordinated' groups, and/or 2) do not display a range of motion or the precision normally inherent in more traditional dance (unless those motions are somehow incorporated into the performance, which most were not). Interesting use of props in one number, though. I merely enjoy watching (more) traditional dance/ballet more than I do (most) modern interpretive dance.
