Holiday wishes

Nov 21, 2010 03:06

STEP ONE
- Make a post (public, friends-locked, filtered... whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of ten holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV"). The important thing is to make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) can get in touch with you. Your home address is not required!
- Make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

STEP TWO
- Surf around your friends list (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now, here's the important part...
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes one person's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use - or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free - do it.
- You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf - to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not - it's your call. There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just... wish, and it might come true. Give and you might receive. You'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

1. Unique holiday cards (i.e. in languages other than English, for celebrations other than Christmas, handmade, with a heartfelt message, humorous, fandom, etc.)

2. Chocolate -- I love the large Hershey bars [plain] from the U.S., and European chocolate is always awesome.

3. Screw-in earrings (NOT clip-ons or regular pierced-ear earrings -- I am allergic to nickel and can't wear regular earrings, and clip-ons hurt my ears. Screw-in earrings look like this.) Any style, colour.

4. Vintage accessories -- old-fashioned rings, bright scarves, knit wraps, necklaces, hairbands with a bow, any accessories like that. Think the fashion of Mad Men (examples here). I love bright colours, greens, blues, browns.

5. Memory sticks, any size -- even the really old ones that don't hold very much. I lead writing groups, so the small ones are great to give to people to back up their writing.

6. Nifty travel aids for backpackers would be very useful since I hope to backpack for an extended period in the next few years. If you need ideas, check out the Magellan's web site.

7. Writing aids and/or inspiration to write. Any tips or encouragement to support a writing life are very welcome! Links to useful websites would be great, too. I mainly write memoir and poetry.

8. Yogi tea in pretty much any "purpose" flavour (especially Throat Comfort, Stomach Ease, Calming, Relaxed Mind, Ginko Clarity, Ginseng Vitality, Aztec Sweet Chili). Yogi's website is here.

9. Anything from Trader Joe's. I LOVE that store. (If you want ideas: I love dried fruit, cookies, chocolate; any of their Trader Joe-brand toiletry products... I'm really not picky!)

10. A job! I'm hoping to start working from home soon and am especially looking for editing and proofreading contract work (I have related education and experience!). I also am proficient in research, especially historical research, and can produce written copy. Contact me at soleta_nf(at)livejournal(dot)com for more information if you are interested or would like my information to pass on to somebody else. I'm looking to drum up business for January 2011, but would consider small jobs before then.

To get my mailing address, please email me at soleta_nf(at)livejournal(dot)com. Thanks so much for reading, and may you all have a wonderful holiday season!
