Extreme Makeover: Dresser Edition!

Sep 01, 2006 13:48

Any of you crafty types have ideas for cheap ways to transform an ugly brown faux-wood dresser into something funky? I inherited this dresser from my roommate (or rather, it was a part of the furniture she left behind; thankfully someone from FreeCycling picked up her bed yesterday before I moved) and because of all the shit with her, I'd really like to make it look entirely different. I investigated the cost of painting it yellow (mmm, yellow), and that would be $50 if I was clever and borrowed a brush from my dad. Um, no.

So, throw your ideas out. Crazy glue buttons and lace to it? Colour it up with multiple markers? Buy cheap spray paint and hope it adheres to the shiny surface anyway? Plaster it with stickers? I want it to look funky without being completely ugly and an eyesore. Though my taste is somewhat unique. Think: 70s ugly and pleasant clashing is GOOD; 80s ugly and anal matching is BAD.

And yes the move went well. After almost having no-one besides myself, my dad and my stepmom to help move, we managed to enlist my brother (at lunchtime because he worked last night), my other brother and his friend (for an hour before soccer try-outs, which turned into over two hours and I hope they didn't miss the try-outs completely), and my really awesome step-sister. Yay for bodies! It was pretty painless, except for the time they tried to leave after they thought everything was done. My room was a sea of boxes and a cleared off bed. I could have maybe body surfed the boxes to try to get to my closet, but that's about it. I made them help me arrange the boxes better and get furniture in place so I could start unpacking. Otherwise, I think I would have cried.

I love my new place. My new roommate is great and friendly (how refreshing!), and the apartment is really well laid-out. I can actually use my kitchen this time, which is nice, and my room is much bigger. We stayed up until 1 a.m. unpacking last night and got a lot done, and then I was up at 6 a.m. for an inspection of my old apartment, which I was really nervous about. They didn't see a lot of damage, though, which was nice, so I don't think I'll lose too much of my deposit, which is a relief. Then I went home and unpacked some more, now I'm at work, and later I will volunteer until 8:30 p.m. Crazy long day! But I will have email access tonight. Mmm.

Also, why did Hot Topic not have this selection of Harry Potter t-shirts when I made my last order? Shipping is a bitch, man. (But does my Cedric tee ever look good on me today!)
