It often seems like there is little to be patriotic about in this country.  And national pride has always seemed a bit absurd to me.  But there are many great things about the United States.  Anyone who has traveled can see that.  And Woody Guthrie is (or rather, was) one of those things:

I had a music teacher tell me I was making up the lyrics in verse 4 and on and kick me out of class in jr. high.

Well, I can only hope that s/he somehow discovered at some point that those actually were the lyrics of the song and realized what a total douche s/he is.
