Fanfic suggestions: St (i.e. Star Wars) to Sz
Star Wars
Force Awakens (The)
(This refers to fic relating to the film 'The Force Awakens'.)

  • In Tandem, by nymja. Rated G. (Some Han/Leia). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: Leia tries to picture Han as a father. She envisions her infant son being asked to hold a plasma torch as dad attempts to weld a coupling that’s come undone for the fifth or sixth time. Han tries to picture Leia as a mother. He sees his kid, with tons of hair. Just. Lots and lots of hair.
Bea's comments: This fic is set in the same universe as 'The Force Awakens' but several years before the events of that film (i.e. post 'Return of the Jedi'). Also, this fic is both hilarious and incredibly adorable. :)
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
  • Legacies, by lupinely. Rated G. Recommended by Bea.
Rey and Luke, immediately following the events of Episode VII.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
  • Made of All the Little Bones of Our Fathers, by arestlesswind. Rated PG. Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: She has no name, is barely more than matter and energy, and Luke loves his daughter. Always has. Always will, regardless. This is his charge, his mission, his truest responsibility: to be the father he never had, only had, for hardly longer than a heartbeat.
Bea's comments: Please note that this fic is an attempt to reconcile the Star Wars expanded universe/Legends with the events of 'The Force Awakens'. I thought it worked pretty well.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
Original trilogy
(This refers to the trilogy of films beginning with 'A New Hope'.)

  • Best Dressed Lie (The), by igrockspock. Rated G. Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: Leia begins showing signs of force sensitivity at an early age. Her parents struggle to dissuade her from investigating her new powers before Vader discovers the daughter he never knew he had.
NB: More fic by this author can be found in the 'Veronica Mars', 'Star Trek' (reboot universe), and 'Avengers (The)' sections of my fanfic pages, and is also here.
  • Dream Deferred (A), by frodogenic. Rated PG-13 (a tiny bit of Luke/other). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: Luke Skywalker saw a lot of pilots die in the fight against the Empire. Most of them were friends. She was almost more... A oneshot in honor of Valentine's Day. Canon-compliant.
Bea's comments: This is set somewhere between 'A New Hope' and 'The Empire Strikes Back'.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here and is recommended within this section (i.e. ‘Star Wars’).
  • Far More than Rubies, by frodogenic. Rated G. Recommended by Bea.

(This refers to the trilogy of films starring starring Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor -see here.)

  • The Bodyguard, by emmagrant01. NC-17 (Qui-Gon Jinn/Obi-Wan Kenobi slash). Recommended by Bea.
Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan find each other during unusual circumstances. (Bea: I know that's a bit nebulous, but I'm trying not to give things away as well as keep the summary PGish.)
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
  • Far More than Rubies, by frodogenic. Rated G. Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: Nine years after AOTC, tragedy revisits the Lars Homestead. Little Luke Skywalker is suddenly plunged into chaos as the rebel movements discover a secret military project that may make a crucial difference in the war with the Empire.

  • Grounded by Lightning, by Wednesday. NC-17 for slash (Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon Jinn). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: Qui-Gon is left by a lover, and Obi-Wan intends to make sure it never happens again.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
Star Wars Expanded Universe/Star Wars Legends
(More about the 'expanded universe' can be found here.)

  • Catalyst, by Claudia_flies. NC-17 (Luke Skywalker/Mara Jade). Recommended by Bea.

  • Committee Meeting, by Archaeologist. PG-13 (Luke Skywalker/Mara Jade). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: A few hours into their honeymoon, Luke and Mara get a visit from an old friend. Ben Kenobi had forgotten to mention one tiny little detail about the Jedi Code - attachment is forbidden.
Bea's comments: This one was LMAO funny. Slight parody alert. :-)
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
  • Dinner Party (The), by Ash Darklighter. NC-17 (Luke/Mara Jade). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: Leia and Han invite their friends over for dinner. Not all things going to plan.

NB: More fic by this author can be found here and within the current/'Star Wars' section.
  • Force Works in Extremely Irritating Ways (The), by resperella. Rated NC-17 (Luke/Mara Jade). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: Luke and Mara screw things up and make a soulbond. In the process of trying to get rid of it, they accidentally fall in love. Set after The Last Command; if you haven't read the Thrawn Trilogy, this will all make very little sense to you.
Bea's comments: Please note that the trilogy of books mentioned by the author were written by author Timothy Zahn (published 1991 - 1993) and summaries can be found here.

Author's summary: Mara Jade faces the hardest struggle of her life as she trains to be a Jedi while trying to come to terms with her past as the Emperor's Hand. She didn't count on a blue-eyed Jedi Master with issues of his own becoming the biggest challenge of all.

  • Made of All the Little Bones of Our Fathers, by arestlesswind. Rated PG. Recommended by Bea.

Also, it takes place not long after the events of Return of the Jedi and right after the book The Truce at Bakura by Kathy Tyers (i.e. you don't have to have read the book to follow and enjoy this fic, but here is a summary of the book's plot for those who are interested).
NB: More fic by this author can be found here and within this section (i.e. 'Star Wars').

Author's summary: Mara observes disparate cultural traditions on the night before her wedding.
Bea's comments: Quite a bit of humor and I loved the kick-ass ladies in this one. ;)
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
  • X-Wing: Knights of Plooma, by JediMara77. Rated PG-13 (Luke/Mara Jade). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: Luke and Mara are recruited by the Rogues to assist in diplomatic negotiations on a planet where Old Republic Jedi are revered. They are also forced to pretend that they are married...for two long weeks.

Supernatural

  • And the next day would be Christmas, by brynnmck. PG-13. Recommended by Bea.
Set before the series. Sam is preparing to go off to College. It's Christmas eve and John Winchester goes on a hunt.

Author's summary: Christmas Eve, a barn, a baby, and an angel...
NB: More fic by this author can be found in our 'Avengers (The)' recs section and is also here.
  • Twist and Shout, by gabriel and standbyme. NC-17 (Dean/Castiel slash). Recommended by Bea.
Authors' summary: What begins as a transforming love between Dean Winchester and Castiel Novak in the summer of 1965 quickly derails into something far more tumultuous when Dean is drafted in the Vietnam War. Though the two both voice their relationship is one where saying goodbye is never a real truth, their story becomes fraught with the tragedy of circumstance. In an era where homosexuality was especially vulnerable, Twist and Shout is the story of the love transcending time, returning over and over in its many forms, as faithful as the sea.
Bea's comments: It is true that this majorly AU fic is not entirely faithful to the characters (a criticism I mention because I've seen many discuss this fic online). It is however a *beautiful* love story and entirely worth reading, IMHO.
NB: More fic by these authors can be found here and here.
  • When you hear me singing you get the rifle down, by embroiderama. PG-13. Recommended by Bea. Set many years before the series. Dean tries to protect his brother like his father taught him.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
