Fanfic suggestions: Sn to St (i.e. Star Trek)
Stargate
Stargate: Atlantis

  • Moments Sacred and Profane series, by Mice. NC-17 (McKay/Beckett slash, and not detailed past child abuse). Recommended by Angela.
Angela's comments: This is a prolific, wonderful ongoing series of stories set during seasons 1 and 2. The characterizations are spot on and there are great original characters and couples. Everything by this author is great. Just scroll down till you get to this series and check out the 2 soundtracks available for download.
  • A Regency SGA Tale, by GraceandFire. NC-17 (Sheppard/Mckay slash). Recommended by Angela.
John Sheppard is determined to bring to ruin the villainous McKay family. But young (ok, youngish) Rodney interferes with his plans. This is totally fun, AU, like a fizzy romance novel.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
  • Ripples in the Space Between, by Miriel/Butterfly_Beat (aka mardahin). PG-13 (Slash and het, Sheppard/McKay and lots of other pairings. Mpreg -I know, but it works.). Recommended by Angela.
What happens when Atlantis is cut off from Earth again? What about when contact is re-established? Stories cover several decades.
Angela: Not what I expected and the second generation Lanteans are great to read.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here and at their livejournal pages (i.e. profile linked above).
  • The World According to Rover, by Orithain and Rina. NC-17 (Sheppard/McKay slash). Recommended by Angela.
Angela's comments: Another awesome series by the ladies at Infinitum. The humour I love and a sentient cart named Rover. What more could you ask for?
NB: More fic by these authors can be found here and is recommended in these pages (i.e. see the crossovers section as well as the ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Jeremiah’, ‘Smallville’, and ‘Veronica Mars’ sections).
Stargate:SG1

  • Accidents and Understandings part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6, part 7/final part, by Biblio. NC-17 (Jack/Daniel slash). Recommended by Angela.
Author's description: A week in the life of an arthritic colonel and a myopic linguist in pursuit of THE perfect date. Split into 7 parts.
Angela's description: FUNNY, sweet and thoroughly enjoyable. I love all of Biblio's stories but I'm recommending this one specifically because it was my first.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
  • Stranded, by Bryn. R (Daniel/Janet). Recommended by Angela.
Angela: A peaceful mission goes horribly wrong stranding Daniel and Janet. Wow, I actually read a non-slash SG1 fic. I don't get to see Janet enough and a story from her point of view was refreshing. The development from friendship to love is taken slowly and their reintroduction to home gives an interesting jolt to the balance of their relationship.
(For crossovers involving the 'Stargate:SG1' universe, see the crossover section here.)
Star Trek
Deep Space Nine

  • Draw Back The Curtain, by thinlizzy2. PG/PG-13 (Damar/Kira Nerys). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: All of their lives, both Damar and Kira have tried to ignore their reoccurring dreams about each other. But fighting together in the Cardassian Resistance brings everything to a head, and there are some things that just can't be avoided.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here and in our 'Game of Thrones' pages.
General (no particular television series)

  • The Vortex of Power series, by Christine L. Francis. (R to NC-17). Recommended by Angela.
This is a series of six stories which takes place among the Klingons. (The first story interacts with DS9.) This series covers politics, integrating into an alien culture and some good old-fashioned Klingon romance. A very wild read.
NB: Further stories by this author can be found here.
  • Wisdom and Beauty, by Macedon. StarTrek around DS9/Voyager time. NC-17 for rape. Recommended by Bea and Angela.
Angela: This story is simply amazing. It has nothing to do with the TV shows and involves a Vulcan/Human relationship. There is a rape involved but if you can get past that then the rest of the story is very worthwhile.
Bea: This story is, like Angela said, amazing. It is rated NC-17 because of a graphic rape scene. Rape and its aftermath are depicted in this story, which manages to make you feel the horror of this very well.
Next Generation (The)

  • Long Journey Home, by AstraPerAspera. Rated PG-13 (Picard/Crusher). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: 18 months after Nemesis, Jean Luc Picard cannot settle in with his new crew. While on sabbatical his life takes an unexpected turn and he meets up with old friends to outwit an old enemy. Follows TVMovie canon, not novels.
Bea's comments: I thought this fic was very well done which is why I recommended it, but I do have several nitpicks regarding it however. (Link to my review TBA).
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
  • Passing Ships, by Ym. G/PG (crossover with ST:Voyager, with a tiny bit of Janeway/Chakotay).Recommended by Bea.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard's friendship with two generations of Janeway admirals.
NB: This site seems to be down. We will post a new link if we find one.

NB: More fic by this author is recommended in our pages (i.e. in the Star Trek 'reboot 'verse section) and can be found here.
  • They Said This Air Would Be Breathable, by MiraMira. Rated G. Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: Star Trek missions tend to end poorly for low-ranking crewmembers who aren't part of the main ensemble. Unless the low-ranking crewmember in question is Ensign Mayhem. Then it's the senior officers who need to watch out.
NB: This had Bea ROTFLMAO. Parody alert! :-)
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
Reboot Universe (i.e. 2009 movie universe)

  • 75% Compatibility, by LenahCC. Rated R (Spock/Nyota Uhura). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: Further observation had led him to conclude that Cadet Uhura held the very act and institution of learning with reverence. Individuals who respected knowledge correlated to a capability for higher thinking-logic. Given all observable factors, he gauged their work style compatibility to be fair at 75%. And as the undertaking of a teaching aide was mandatory, the cadet was his most logical choice for the role.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
  • All That We Can Be, by dreamlittleyo. NC-17 (Kirk/Spock slash). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: The bond between captain and first mate runs deeper than blood. Written to the prompt, 'spock goes into Pon Farr and Uhura isn't able to empathically bond with him -but a certain captain is'.

NB: More fic by this author can be found at their livejournal and is also recommended in this section (i.e. Star Trek reboot 'verse).

NB: More fic by this author can be found here, here, and here.
  • Coming Home, by awarrington. NC-17 (Kirk/Spock slash). Recommended by Bea.

  • For Gladness of You, by kariye. NC-17 (Spock/Kirk slash). Recommended by Bea and Angela.
Author's summary: In which shit goes down in no particular order: Jim almost starts a war, Spock gets tortured, Jim gets kidnapped, Jim gets tortured, Spock gets not-quite-kidnapped, Jim takes the Enterprise joyriding, and mysterious Vulcans with their even more mysterious leader hop a ride for a few weeks. But that’s not what the story’s about. It’s about this: Jim was always going to fall in love with Spock - boldly, recklessly. He just didn’t expect to stay that way. A story about getting over all that.
NB: More fanfic by this author can be found here.
  • Half of my Heart, by CorpusInvictus. NC-17 (Kirk/Spock slash, tiny bit of Spock/Uhura). (This is actually a crossover with Star Trek:The Original Series.) Recommended by Bea.

  • If Wishes Were Horses, by tobinfic. NC-17 (Kirk/Janice Rand). Recommended by Bea.

She drifted into Starfleet on a whim, and to her surprise, found a niche to fill. But being assigned to the Enterprise brings with it a challenge to her neat and ordered way of life, and Janice is unsure as to how much she's willing to let James T. Kirk affect her. But since when has love ever been easy? And will Janice let her heart stand in the way of her career?
Bea's comments: If you weren't a fan of this character in the original series, I'd still suggest giving this one a try. This author did an amazing job of bringing the character of Janice Rand to life in an amazing way. I rooted for her throughout the story.
NB: More fic by this author can be found at their livejournal and is recommended in this section (i.e. Star Trek reboot universe).

  • songs that remind me of you, by irnan. Rated PG-13 (Kirk/Janice Rand). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: Saying she's Jim Kirk's Yeoman is a bit like saying "his PA" and the same as saying "the one person on the ship who makes sure his day goes exactly the way it needs to so he can do his job".
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
  • Still Life, by garryowen/dogpoet. NC-17 (Kirk/Spock slash).Recommmended by Bea.
Author's summary: Traumatized by his experience on Tarsus IV, Jim Kirk runs away to Vulcan to undergo kolinahr.

NB: More fic by this author can be found here and is also recommended in these pages (see the 'Smallville' section).

  • Turn Not Back, part 1, part 2, by ladyblahblah. Rated NC-17 (Kirk/Spock slash). Recommended by Bea.

NB: More fic by this author can be found at their livejournal.
  • Unsung, by jncar. Rated PG. Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: Written in response to the prompt: "Winona, unsung".
Bea's comments: I really liked this portrayal of Kirk's mother, which was different from most fanfic (i.e. where she tends to be portrayed as a horrible person and mother) and really well done.
NB: More fic by this author is recommended in our pages (i.e. in the current/Star Trek 'reboot 'verse section) and can be found at their livejournal.
Voyager

  • A Good Man is Hard (to Program), by monkee. NC-17 (Janeway/other).Recommended by Bea.
Captain Janeway uses the facilities on the holodeck.

  • Ab Initio, by Brianna Thomas. PG-13 (Janeway/Chakotay). Recommended by Bea.
After the events in the episode 'Counterpoint', Captain Janeway is taken ill.
Bea's comments: I liked this one, despite not having seen the episode in question. The plot was quite interesting and imaginative.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here and is also recommended in the current section (i.e. Star Trek Voyager).
  • Deeds Done in Darkness, by Emma Woodhouse. NC-17 (Janeway/Paris). Recommended by Bea and Angela.
Set during the second season of the series. Kathryn Janeway has an interesting dream one night.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here (i.e. just scroll down the the fic that is by 'Woodhouse').
  • Diary of a Madwoman, by vanhunks. NC-17 (a bit of Janeway/Chakotay).
Author's summary:This story is a “what if” story based on the episode “NIGHT”. In this “what if” scenario, I posed the question: “What if Kathryn Janeway got her way and remained in the void, like she suggested to Chakotay? Kathryn Janeway gets her way. The plan Chakotay and the senior crew came up with, I changed liberally.  The options they discussed would leave only one answer: someone would have to be on the inside to destroy the vortex. Kathryn destroys the spatial vortex after Voyager has gone through. She will remain in the void.
Bea's comments: This story is quite amazing. Again, a 'what if' scenario regarding what could have happened during a particular episode (i.e. so a 'road not taken'), done in an incredibly original and believable way.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
  • Future is Ours (The), by Dawn. NC-17 (Janeway/Chakotay). Recommended by Bea.
Picking up where the television series left off, this series how these two characters' relationship might have evolved in the midst of a changing Federation. (Taken partly from author's summary.)
NB: More fanfic by this author can be found here.
  • Hopes and dreams, by Brianna Thomas. NC-17 (Janeway/Chakotay). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: Captain Janeway has some strange experiences after exploring a nebula.
Bea's comments: This was very well done. I especially liked the links between the scenes and how the difference between reality and fiction/dreams was emphasized in the story.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here and is also recommended in the current section (i.e. Star Trek Voyager).
  • Leap of Faith series, by Penny. Rated PG-13 (some Janeway/Chakotay). Recommended by Bea.
Action and drama occur as Voyager continues its voyage in the Delta quadrant, going through many adventures. Meanwhile, the Captain and her first officer deal with their feelings for one another. Bea especially liked this story's interesting plotlines. (Starts with 'Avatar'.)
Bea: I tried and failed for a really really long time to find a link for this fic. The only link I found is a web archived link, so hopefully it will work. I believe this is most likely due to the fact that this author has now published some of her fic. While I'm happy for the author, I also find it unfortunate and a teensy bit annoying to suddenly not be able to read these stories without paying (or perhaps not at all). So FYI: I don't believe this author's fic will ever reappear online in anything other than web archive links.
  • Lieutenant (The) -this is a series of 4 stories, the summary below is for the first story, by Rocky_T. PG-13 (Janeway/Justin Tighe). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: Janeway's relationship with Lieutenant Justin Tighe--the beginning.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
  • Once and Future Captain, by Your Cruise Director, Libra471, and Shayenne. NC-17 (Janeway/Chakotay). Recommended by Bea.
Chakotay and Harry Kim find themselves transported to a future Voyager.

NB: More fic by Your Cruise Director can be found here.
  • Parameters, by lodessa. NC-17 (Janeway/Chakotay). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: What starts out as a friendly arrangement to release some built up tension quickly spirals out of control.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
  • Passing Ships, by Ym. PG-13 (crossover with ST:The Next Generation, with a tiny bit of Janeway/Chakotay).Recommended by Bea.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard's friendship with two generations of Janeway admirals.
NB: Unfortunately this author's site is down. We will post a new link if we find one.
  • Real Kathryn (The), by Shayenne. NC-17 (Janeway/Chakotay). Recommended by Bea.
A bet on the holodeck. Chakotay bets that he can tell the real Kathryn from the holographic one. (This was the author's summary)
NB: More fic by Shayenne can be found here and is recommended in this section (i.e. 'Star Trek Voyager').
  • Realm of Hope (The), by Mizvoy. PG-13 (Janeway/Chakotay). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: Kathryn Janeway's life experiences have taught her to give up hope for her personal dreams. That's when a friend steps in to help her see that the future can be the realm of hope.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
  • Road Less Traveled (The), by elem. NC-17 (Janeway/Chakotay). Recommended by Bea.
After going through the Borg transwarp hub (which in the final season of the TV show is what leads them home) this fic diverges by having events take a different path.
NB: More fic by this author can be found here.
  • Stalemate, by Oparu (USSJellyfish). NC-17 (Janeway/Chakotay). Recommended by Bea.
Author's summary: An Endgame and Full Circle fix-it. Decades after Kathryn Janeway's death, Chakotay travels back into the past and arrives the same day as the alternate Admiral Janeway. Since both of their futures are unfathomable, the current Kathryn and Chakotay have to find a way to keep their Voyager family, and each other, alive and well.
NB: More by this author can be found here.
  • Things I Cannot Say, part 1, part 2, by Shayenne. NC-17 (Janeway/Chakotay). Recommended by Bea.
Brief summary: Initially loosely woven around the events of the episode 'Human Error' (i.e. where Seven of Nine creates a hologram of Chakotay to practice social interactions), this eventually takes things in a new direction.
NB: More fic by Shayenne can be found here and is recommended in this section (i.e. 'Star Trek Voyager').
  • Twisted, by Scott Martin. PG-13. Recommended by Bea.
NB: This is a ridiculous parody of the show which had Bea in stitches.
  • Without Guilt, by Spiletta. NC-17 for female/female slash (Janeway/other). Recommended by Bea.
This is close to being a PWP, but it is quite well written. Janeway has an encounter with an alien during shore leave from Voyager. Bea particularly appreciated the fact that the author actually made what was essentially a PWP with an original character believable, in terms of characterization.
NB: More fanfic by this author can be found here.
