Breathe Me

“You’re…getting really good at this,” Ilosovic Stayne managed, struggling to regain his breath, which was quite a challenge as it felt like he were losing it altogether while his eyes took in the image of Mirana, poised above him, breathing just as heavily and holding a sword high over her head.

It certainly wasn’t a position he was minding: sprawled out beneath the Queen, who was straddling him, dressed in more masculine sparring clothes, her white hair wild over her shoulders and chest heaving as she panted for air. Her dark eyes were glinting with mischief and, if anything, she looked more appealing to him than ever.

“That’s the first time I’ve been able to pin you,” she grinned, her eyes raking over him slowly, enjoying her view of him from the vantage point that she had. His dark hair was feathering out in a stark contrast to the white tile floor, the collar of the black tunic he wore stretched open to reveal just the right amount of pale skin, and the blue eye that wasn’t covered by a heart shaped patch was sparkling just as playfully at her.

He chuckled softly, making no attempt to move. “Something I should probably get used to…you’ve become stronger,” there was much admiration in his tone and she felt herself blushing furiously.

“Have I?”

“Yes, you have,” unable to resist, he reached up and brushed a stray lock of hair away from her eyes, his bare fingers brushing over her skin in a manner that made pleasant sparks shoot up her spine. “And I’m not going to deny that this pleases me greatly.”

Her heart sped up and she tossed the sword aside, the metal clanging against the floor as she swiftly grasped the fabric of his collar and yanked him towards her for a passionate kiss.

Smirking against Mirana’s mouth, Ilosovic shifted into a sitting position, allowing her to be sprawled over his lap as they embraced heatedly, his arms curling around her and tugging her close. “I take it I’ve pleased my Queen with those words?” he teased, nipping softly at her mouth.

“Very,” she mumbled, her fingers tangling in his hair as the kiss escalated and hands began to wander. “In fact I’d love to show you just how much but…I’m thinking I may need a bath first,” she wrinkled her nose cutely as she pulled back for air. “I must be frumious.”

His head fell back a little as he laughed. “Never,” leaning in, he touched his forehead to hers before nuzzling his nose against hers affectionately. “Though a bath does sound nice. Shall I have one drawn for you?”
Giggling, Mirana shook her head, basking in the affection before pulling back. “I have a better idea,” she finally moved to stand, extending her hand out to him. “Come with me.”

He took it, allowing her to pull him up, rising to his full height, which was significantly shorter than what it had been in her sister’s court. He was grateful for the fact that, in Mirana’s, he didn’t have to tower over everyone, and could just be his normal self. Smiling, he offered her his arm, and Mirana grinned back before linking hers with his and together, they left the armory.

Hand clasped with hers, Ilosovic watched Mirana with loving features as she guided him through the gardens that made up the castle grounds, towards the large glass atrium that housed the most precious of his Queen’s beloved white roses.

“This has always been my little secret,” Mirana murmured, her grasp on his hand tightening. “I’ve never shared this with anyone, but I’m glad you’re the first,” she glanced back at him, smiling coyly. “And the only. My secret is about to become ours…do you think you can keep it?”

Her words made him inhale sharply, and suddenly he felt more nervous than he had been. He loved Mirana more than anything in the world and the fact that she trusted him with something so dear to her made his heart swell. “I will…I promise.”

The smile she gave him was beaming and there was a gentle squeeze to his hand before she opened the door to the atrium and led him inside.

It was the first time he’d ever been inside and he took a moment to eye his surroundings, taking in the walls covered in white blooms that reached up to the ceiling. At the center of the atrium was a huge, white porcelain bathtub, which Mirana immediately moved towards.

“This…” she stroked slowly over the edge of the tub in a manner that made him wish he were the object, “Is my private sanctuary,” turning, she aimed another dazzling smile at him. “Do you like it?”

“It’s beautiful,” he breathed, starting towards her.

Giggling softly, she took his hands in hers once he came near and leaned up to kiss him. “And best of all…there’s running water,” she turned on the faucets and pristine, clear liquid began to fill the tub.

“Warm water, I hope,” he mumbled against her mouth as he felt her begin to unlace the ties to his shirt. “Though perhaps a cold bath would be more appropriate,”

Bell-like laughter filtered into his ears and Mirana tugged insistently at the hem of his shirt, prompting Ilosovic to raise his arms to allow her to divest him of it. “I’m sure there are other ways we can keep warm if the water gets cold.”

A soft growl was his response and he dragged her into his arms for a more fervent kiss as they focused fully on undressing each other.

Hands roamed avidly over bare skin and she squealed softly when he suddenly scooped her up and carried her into the tub, the two of them settling against each other and embracing languidly.

She pulled back to tenderly remove the patch over his right eye so it wouldn’t get wet, caressing at his cheek before lightly trailing her lips over the scars that marred his handsome face.

Sighing quietly, Ilosovic gathered her against him. “It always feels good when you do that…you’re the only woman that doesn’t find those markings hideous.”

“Why should I?” she whispered, nuzzling against his hair and pressing another sweet kiss to the disfigured side of his face. “After all…I know exactly how you got them. I’ve seen them at their worst.”

“You’ve seen me at my worst,” he muttered, trailing long, elegant fingers up her damp skin before tangling them in her waist-length moon-colored hair. “And yet you still love me, which is something I’m eternally grateful for.”

Her heart fluttered in her chest and she leaned in to kiss him again. “And I’m eternally grateful that you love me back,”

Smiling, Ilosovic pulled her into another embrace, passion igniting and ensuring that there would be little talk for a while.

Mirana’s head fell back against Ilosovic’s broad, nicely-toned chest, a soft groan escaping her as his skilled hands worked on massaging her shoulders. “Whatever you’re doing, don’t ever stop. How’d you get so good at this?”

Her answer was a throaty chuckle. “I have talents besides fighting, you know.”

“Obviously,” she opened her eyes, relaxing further in his arms, gasping slightly when he dipped his head down to press a kiss to her neck.

He moved his mouth up along the slender column of her throat before nibbling playfully at her earlobe. “The water’s starting to get cold…”

“Really? Hadn’t noticed,” she twisted around in order to steal a proper kiss, her fingers tracing figures over his chest before pulling back to gaze at him, eyes raking over how gorgeous he looked with beads of moisture glistening on his skin and his shoulder length dark hair tangled and damp. “Though we should probably get out before we shrivel up.”

He tugged playfully at her wet hair. “And this should be dried before you catch a cold.”

“Same could be said for you,” she murmured, moving in for yet another kiss.

He chuckled against her lips, deepening the embrace and distracting her with those talented hands once more.
