Clean up: Making the Minneapolis Olympics Happen

Feb 26, 2010 23:08

This seems to be the only form of contact available, which I think is problematic when considering bidding for the Olympic Games. In any case, while I understand why you took down the link I posted earlier, I want to make it clear that I did not post the link as spam. I think it's important to keep up with what the USOC is doing, as they say which city gets to actually make a bid for the Olympics. I also think that there should be more discussion about what would go into the bid process and what the city needs to do in order to make itself bid ready. I would like to provide some links that are related to this topic and ambition. It would behoove you to at least visit these sites.

Future Summer Bids

The IOC gives us instructions on how to bid.

The USOC makes a good call that will yield long term benefits.

I have been thinking about a Minneapolis since the Torino Games and have even read bid books for candidate cities to get an idea of what would need to be addressed at the city level in order to have a fighting chance in the bid process. My future father in law also knows one of the bid organizers from the city's failed quest for the 1996 bid, and I would be willing to call in favors as needed if you are serious about this bid. The city's chances are slim but not completely impossible. You just need more than a Facebook group and a website to make it happen. If you are truly serious about this, do keep in mind I would be interested in helping make this happen. I have been following the Olympics nearly my whole life and have devoted years to learning about its various components. I want what you want, but I also think you need to be open to a much larger variety of information and communication if you want this to happen. Open up the avenues, and Minneapolis could make a serious run for an Olympic bid...for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
