Ha...well I spose you've heard what happens next...the young man lifts high his sword and sends it down into the monster of which he sought. But why seek a monster? So my weeping willow...gather round again and be prepared to hear the chronicles of the Jabberwocky through the eyes of the very boy who defeated it.
It rained again today. I hate rain...it reminds me of that moment...the moment time stopped for me. The moment I failed to reach out and grab the frail strands of fate that might pull me away and lead me to 'Destiny'. The moment...I first saw my wife.
Sometimes when I think about it I realize that I can't actually recall many of the goings on around her...only her presence and her image remains. I think it was a party. Noddlenook had thrown its fair share of parties but this one was for a guest of honor. The wielder of the Vorpal Sword was said to be in attendance and with him an entourage of guardians. Among them was the princess of Norinth hailed as the most beautiful woman ever to grace the 'Third-Corner' and, to my surprise, my future infatuation.
There were many things said about the 'Wielder' but never anything of value. The story seemed to change with each teller who told it. Perhaps I too don't have the facts strait...I suppose then that this is my tale.
My name is Cart. Until recently I had a last name but I have refused to recant it thanks to the 'sacrifice' made to honor it. My father and mother were 'offered' to the beast that lurks in our neighboring forest compliments of the 'compassionate' Cidious. It was said to be an honorable death and one not to be taken lightly. Though I had always seen it as the feud between my father and Cidious coming to light. Like it or not I'm now an orphan and have vowed to restore the honor to my name.
After losing my family I came to face reality in full force. I needed work to keep the tax collectors at bay. The problem is I had very little talent for working. Life was stacked against me and I was perplexed by it. So upon hearing that the position for guardian of the 'Wielder' had opened I leaped at the chance to test my mettle against the odds. The 'Wielder' and his crew had set about looking for what they called 'talented minds and steadfast bodies' and in there search they decided it best to simply travel around the vast 'Third-Corner'. Until, at least, they found a suitable replacement.
When Noddlenook was alerted to the news they began preparations immediately. The once laid back town suddenly burst into life. The change was monumental. After a few short weeks the small simple town looked like a city well in the to do. A 'home away from home' I think they named the remodeling. I believe it was only after the preparations were completed did they send out the application to be tested by the 'Wielder' and company.
It was there...at the proving grounds that I saw both the woman I'd die for and the woman I'd live for the first time.
