After hitting the
brunch to save the Teal Deer yesterday morning and talking with
Blair about environmental activism and brainsucking (as you do) and
Callisto and Angela about scrapbooking (as you... well, no, you don't actually do if you don't actually want to get killinated by Angel and Marty, but talking is still pretty much okay) Xander had

Save The Teal Deer button and tossed it to Isabel. "Save the cute blue fluffy animals from twisted hunters brunch thingy, to be exact. Picked one up for you."
He looked over as he stuffed books into his backpack. "Just general exhaustion? Or was detention not a fun time? Mine was... not exactly bad, but then I had the Mountie."

It took a few minutes for the rest of Xander's words to process and then Isabel snickered. "Unfortunately I didn't have the Mountie."

"Can we pretend I didn't say that? By which I mean can you, because I know I can."

And then her face fell. "Oddly enoughit's strangely appropriate to talk about dreams and nightmares. Prof. Dream was in charge of detention. It wasn't bad, until the end. Where I'm pretty sure everyone there had really bad nightmares."

Xander didn't facepalm this time, but he did add, "Yeah, we can forget I said that too. That'd be fine."

She pointed towards the gifts on the desk. "Are they for Molly?"

He grinned. "Aaaand yeah, avoiding Callistine ass-kicking is probably a good idea."
A little more seriously, he asked, "Angel was in detention too? Or was he just worried about you in general? Because... I kinda was too, after the way you were acting in Art."
Reply
"He was in detention. I think he stopped by here Saturday partly because of detention and partly because of Art." She blushed and looked down, still embarrassed by how out of control she'd been. "He tried to talk to me in class but he got distracted by Parker. I'm sorry about that, for making you worry. I guess you could say I was in serious, serious denial."

"An entire summer to deal with getting drowned? As in someone did it purposely?"

Xander nodded. "Yeah... this place isn't perfect? The bad still keeps coming, just like everywhere. But it's got a lot going for it, and weirdly, the weirdness factor seems to be one of the good parts."
Reply
"It is. Part of the good that is. So far most people have reacted pretty well. Very low-key as a matter of fact. That's a bit different then how people reacted in Roswell. Maria was terrified at first."

He gazed at Jeremiah for a second, rolled his eyes, and dropped in an extra pinch of dried bloodworm. "I can understand that, I guess. I mean, the Sunnydale folks you meet here are gonna be pretty blasè about strange things now, but we weren't always. Finding out vampires were real was... not the funnest experience ever."
Reply
"I can imagine. My first meeting with a real vampire was no fun." Wrinkling her nose, Isabel remembered that night when they were attacked by Darla. "I mean, I knew Angel. Knew he was a vamp. But it was different when it's a vamp talking about you like you're an appetizer."
