Room 406, before 1st period

After hitting the brunch to save the Teal Deer yesterday morning and talking with Blair about environmental activism and brainsucking (as you do) and Callisto and Angela about scrapbooking (as you... well, no, you don't actually do if you don't actually want to get killinated by Angel and Marty, but talking is still pretty much okay) Xander had ( Read more... )

"Oh, brunch thingy." Xander turned to his desk, dropped some food in Jeremiah's tank while he was there, then grabbed a

Save The Teal Deer button and tossed it to Isabel. "Save the cute blue fluffy animals from twisted hunters brunch thingy, to be exact. Picked one up for you."

He looked over as he stuffed books into his backpack. "Just general exhaustion? Or was detention not a fun time? Mine was... not exactly bad, but then I had the Mountie."

Isabel reached out a hand and caught the button. "Thanks," she said as she looked at the button. "They're cute."

It took a few minutes for the rest of Xander's words to process and then Isabel snickered. "Unfortunately I didn't have the Mountie."

Xander blinked. And then facepalmed.

"Can we pretend I didn't say that? By which I mean can you, because I know I can."

"I can do that," Isabel grinned. "I'm just waking up now and anything said before that was part of a really bizarre dream."

And then her face fell. "Oddly enoughit's strangely appropriate to talk about dreams and nightmares. Prof. Dream was in charge of detention. It wasn't bad, until the end. Where I'm pretty sure everyone there had really bad nightmares."

Xander looked sympathetic. "Ouch. That's a little harsh. Especially on people like you who didn't do anything to earn it."

"It was. But in the end I think it helped. It made me face up to everything that happened last week." She gave a wry smile. "Fortunately Angel stopped by to check on me. I got him all soggy."

"...dirty?"

Xander didn't facepalm this time, but he did add, "Yeah, we can forget I said that too. That'd be fine."

"No dirty. He was concerned, which I really appreciated. Besides" Isabel smiled, "His girlfriend would kick my ass."

She pointed towards the gifts on the desk. "Are they for Molly?"

"One's for Molly, one's for Jaye, since I missed her party last week," Xander answered.

He grinned. "Aaaand yeah, avoiding Callistine ass-kicking is probably a good idea."

A little more seriously, he asked, "Angel was in detention too? Or was he just worried about you in general? Because... I kinda was too, after the way you were acting in Art."

"I need to get into town this morning to do some shopping. But I'm not sure what to get Molly. Hopefully I'll see something there." She might need to get to town, but she still wasn't moving.

"He was in detention. I think he stopped by here Saturday partly because of detention and partly because of Art." She blushed and looked down, still embarrassed by how out of control she'd been. "He tried to talk to me in class but he got distracted by Parker. I'm sorry about that, for making you worry. I guess you could say I was in serious, serious denial."

Xander nodded. "I figured it was something like that. No worries." He tilted his head. "Well, worries, obviously, but no problem. You still didn't manage to out-deny my friend Buffy, who took an entire summer to deal with the fact that getting drowned? Kind of pissed her the hell off."

"I don't know. I was pretty far out on that raft," Isabel admitted. "The nightmare? Helped to put things in perspective a bit. I'm not happy that people found out, but at least here? It doesn't matter so much."

"An entire summer to deal with getting drowned? As in someone did it purposely?"

"Vampire. Don't ask me why he didn't try to kill her the obvious way; the guy was kind of a drama queen, is the best explanation I've got. Not complaining, though, since CPR actually works on drowning victims."

Xander nodded. "Yeah... this place isn't perfect? The bad still keeps coming, just like everywhere. But it's got a lot going for it, and weirdly, the weirdness factor seems to be one of the good parts."

Isabel tilted her head and studied Xander, "You saved her?"

"It is. Part of the good that is. So far most people have reacted pretty well. Very low-key as a matter of fact. That's a bit different then how people reacted in Roswell. Maria was terrified at first."

Xander shrugged, though yeah, it was a fake shrug, because if he had to only really have one thing on his resume he could gloat over, it was gonna be that. "I was there. I could breathe. It worked out."

He gazed at Jeremiah for a second, rolled his eyes, and dropped in an extra pinch of dried bloodworm. "I can understand that, I guess. I mean, the Sunnydale folks you meet here are gonna be pretty blasè about strange things now, but we weren't always. Finding out vampires were real was... not the funnest experience ever."

"Good for you," Isabel said with a bright smile.

"I can imagine. My first meeting with a real vampire was no fun." Wrinkling her nose, Isabel remembered that night when they were attacked by Darla. "I mean, I knew Angel. Knew he was a vamp. But it was different when it's a vamp talking about you like you're an appetizer."
