St. Patricks day, 5 days in Amsterdamn, and going to The Jam in the Dam...

Home again, home again, Jiggedy Jig.

We got back from amsterdam late Wed night. It was the end of a very long week of partying.

We started our week celebrating St. Patty's at O'Donovans Irish pub here in Boeblingen. They opened early and I got there about 4 in the afternoon. It was nice being there before it got crazy. I had a good chance to talk to my friend Eileen (owner of the pub) and Gajana. Everyone eventualy arrived and it turned into one hell of a party. I ended up going home early (around 1 or 2) because we were leaving for the 'dam first thing friday morning. I woke up with a house full of people crashed everywhere.

We finaly got on the road around 10:30 and made horibble time. I think we hit every Stau possible on the way up there. The drive took us 8 1/2 hours. We checked into our small hotel (only 12 rooms) and hit the town. We spent the remainder of the evening and the next two days exploring Amsterdam one coffee shop at a time.

The shows started sunday night. We finaly got our tickets around 4pm and Bob-o had no problem finding an "extra," hell, they had them at the box office. We saw all of Keller Williams's set, the last hour of particle, and then Umphrey's Mcgee. The shows were incredible. Shawn and bob had at least seen keller before, for me it was all new and great. Monday we saw Bisco (and we thought of you gothhippiegrrl) and Particle and finished off tuesday with Keller, a small part of Umphrey's set and then Bisco again. It appears this was not a one time thing. I believe the promoters are going to try to make this a regular event, I just hope to be able to go next year and see some more bands in that incredible and relaxing setting.

My impression of Amsterdam was a good one. I loved seeing all the street perfomers (music, break dancers, capowetto {SP? brazilian fight dancing}, and puppeteers) I loved walking around and exploring (though I think my friends enjoyed that part less than I.) It was weird being somewhere that english is spooken so thoroughly. I do believe I saw more americans in amsterdam than any other city in Europe. I didn't really get any souveneers. I found 2 nice pieces of glass and a poster and shirt from the fest. Everything else purchased was consumable or got left there. But I did come home with a lot of good memories.
