Karolina had been back on the island for a few days, she'd been too busy to really feel like she was back. On top of her classes, she'd had various things to take care of on the mainland. She was turning eighteen in a matter of weeks, and there was stuff to take care of with regards to her legal guardians and the impending severing of that

Liara had some cautiously good news to share-- or at least some future-awkwardness-containing news. So she went up to Karolina's room after accomplishing said news and...

...well, and hovered in the doorway, because that was her wont. "Karolina?"

Karolina looked up from where she was sprawled on her stomach on the bed, engrossed in an article about cute winterwear.

"Oh, hey!"

She gave Liara a little wave.

"Come on in. Come on."

Liara paused for a moment despite Karolina's insistence, because...

Because...

Okay, because she was struck by how nice Karolina looked, sprawling on the bed like that.

Which just got a curious, confused head tilt from Karolina, who was unaware of any niceness that wasn't on the page in front of her. (Or currently standing in her doorway.)

"What?"

"You look..." Liara's expression softened. "Nice."

A pause. "Sorry."

[solarhippie]

Karolina chuckled a bit sheepishly, but tried waving her in again.

"Thanks. Don't be sorry. That's a compliment."

Liara finally crossed the actual threshold and sat down on the bed. "How are you feeling today?" she asked.

[solarhippie]

"Well, I was pretty busy earlier," Karolina shared, shifting more on to her side and propping her head up on one arm. "But I'm much better now."

She wasn't quite smooth enough to imply Liara had something to do with that.

"I am glad to hear it," said Liara, who was... probably several decades off from noticing innuendo anyway. She reached out and patted Karolina's leg, because it was close. "I was just hired," she said. Paused. "I mean. I got hired. For a job."

[solarhippie]

Karolina raised her eyebrows. "Really? That's awesome!"

Trust her to be encouraging. Even while slightly distracted by the hand on her leg.

"Where?"

"At the book shop," Liara offered, tiny smile on her face. "I can start tomorrow."

[solarhippie]

"Ooh, that's cool!"

Not that Karolina was much of a reader. But she was very supportive, and thought Liara would enjoy working at a book shop, so she was happy, and smiled.

"Sounds like exactly your thing."

"I hope so," Liara admitted. "I am... qualified for little else."

She shifted a little closer on the bed.

[solarhippie]

"Aww, I don't think anyone really cares about that here," Karolina replied. "I mean... Look at the teachers."

[fewerexplosions]

"I suppose you are right," Liara said. "Still. It would feel strange to apply for a job that I am in no way equipped to have." A pause. "Not that I am certain I am equipped to have this one."

Karolina reached out for one of her hands.

"You'll do fine. I know you will. You'll rock."
