Title: Cataclysm 6/8
Rating: All ages
Characters: Nine/Rose
Genres: Alternate Universe, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Missing Scene
A/N: Another one I wrote a long time ago, it's just an idea I had which takes place at the end of Parting of the Ways. Its a sort of alternative ending story. I've blatantly plagiarised parts of the scripts from POTW, (there is a reason for that) so for that I acknowledge those incredible folks at the BBC who make the wonder that is Doctor Who. I don't own any of it, if I did then Christopher Eccleston would be in my bed right now and I wouldn't be here writing this!
Chapter Six
“So what do we do now?” asked Mickey. “I mean questions are bound be asked, it’s not as though we can tell them how she really died can we?” Mickey couldn’t even begin to think how this could be explained to the authorities. He looked over at the Doctor, and hoped that he had some answers.
“Call an ambulance in the morning Jackie, just say you found her like this in bed. A post mor…………” Jackie visibly winced.
“A post mortem will conclude that she died from a brain haemorrhage in her sleep. Twenty first century medicine won’t be able to tell the difference…….” The doctor’s voiced trailed off, he knew Jackie didn’t want to hear those details.
Jackie leaned over to Rose’s body. She began crying again, weeping copiously. The thought of someone cutting open her daughters’ body chilled her to the bone. She stroked Rose’s hair and kissed her face, holding her head close to her. She felt so alone, so desperate to do anything to change things. Mickey looked on, and felt so helpless that he was unable to do anything to relieve her pain. He reached over to Jackie and pulled her close. He held her while her tears flowed.
“Can’t we do anything? Can’t we take the TARDIS back or something? It’s a Time Machine isn’t it, so why can’t we do that? We can’t just leave her like this, Doctor, she went back for you. She saved you, can’t we go back and save her?” Mickey’s eyes pleaded with the Doctor. Jackie’s weeping increased as she was reminded of her own actions, how she’d helped Rose to go back and face certain death.
The Doctor couldn’t hold Mickey’s eye contact, he lowered his head into his hands. “No, can’t cross your own Time line” he said quietly.
“There’s got to be something you can do, please Doctor. Take her somewhere, in the future, where they have better medicine.” Jackie pleaded with the Doctor desperately, tears streaming down her face. She went over to him and forcibly raised his head so he had too look at her. His face was tortured with grief and guilt; he took hold of Jackie’s wrists.
“I can’t, there’s nothing, nowhere” he broke into great gut wrenching sobs now. Nothing…..
“There’s got to be somewhere, she’s my only child Doctor, I can lose her like this. You have no idea what its like to lose a child, she’s all I’ve got. I can’t go on without her” Jackie was becoming hysterical. Her words had pierced his hearts. No idea what it felt like to lose a child? He knew only too well what that felt like, he would never ever wish that pain on anyone, never want anyone to go through what he had gone through, he thought. But there was nothing…… It was impossible…….
“Please Doctor” Jackie’s voice was quieter now, yet more insistent. She looked at the Doctor and for an instant she thought she could see him wrestling with some thought in his mind. "There has to be something..."
No, it was unthinkable
It had to be worth a try
It was forbidden for good reason
But Gallifrey and its laws didn’t exist anymore
Except in him
The only one left, he wouldn’t be alone
She was just a companion, there had been others, there would be more
But not like Rose, never like Rose
Was she worth that cost?
She was worth any cost, he would tear the universe apart for her. He denied it for so long, ignored, told himself that she was just a friend, nothing more. But he was wrong, he loved her, plain and simple, pure honest love. He’d lost everything to the Daleks, but not this time, not again, he couldn’t let them take this from him. Not his Rose……
Then he knew what he had to do.
