oOoOoOoOoOoOo

Jim was fairly sure that their new navy ranger was planning to kill him. In all honestly, he didn't know why any of the other didn't see it. It was obvious. Uhura was planning to get rid of their current red ranger and replace him with her own, Spock. Granted, crimson wasn't exactly red but it was close enough.

Well, they're tech, Chekov, was far too into his computer than was healthy so he really didn't expect him to notice. They had to keep an eye on the kid as it was, who got to the point where he would forget to eat at times. Scotty was always buried underneath piles of spare machine parts, putting all of Chekov's plans into reality. And their yellow ranger, Sulu... He was just too into Chekov to notice anything else.

But he still would have expected Bones to notice. When he voiced his concerns to the blue ranger all he got was an incredulous look and a 'just cause she isn't trying to get into your pants doesn't mean she's trying to kill you'. He was fairly sure that he heard the blue ranger mutter something about 'crazy red rangers' as he left.

Huffing, Jim stormed out of Ninja Ops. Times like this he really wished that Lothor hadn't captured all of the academy’s instructors. They could have used their super ninja powers to tell everyone that Jim wasn't crazy. A frown crossed Jim's face as he cursed Lothor under his breath. Damn Klingons.

He had made it as far as the tree line, ignoring the wreckage of what had once been the Wind Ninja Academy, when he froze. Sitting on a rock, meditating, was their new crimson ranger. Jim shifted nervously, before moving forward. "Hey, Spock."

Spock merely opened one eye. "Greetings, Jim." The crimson ranger really had few social skills to speak of. Jim figured it had to do with being raised at the Thunder Academy, which wasn’t exactly a warm and fuzzy place to begin with. Bones just said that he was just a creepy bastard.

Jim glanced around. "Where's Uhura?" The navy ranger was missing, which shocked the hell out of Jim because he hadn't seen the two leave each other’s side since they showed up.

"She is helping Mr. Scott with calibrations."

He frowned, wondering why he hadn’t seen her there. True, Jim hadn't gone into Scotty's lab but he had been hanging around Ops for a few hours and he hadn't seen hide or hair of her. Huh.

"Jim!"

Both the rangers turned in time to see an out of breath Sulu running up, dragging a sheepish looking Chekov behind him. "What?" Jim asked.

It seemed as though Chekov was going to say something but he apparently thought better of it and looked scuffled his feet.

Sulu rolled his eyes. "Chekov... may have made a machine that... may have malfunctioned and turned Scotty into a gerbil."

"Guinea Pig," Chekov corrected automatically, then went wide-eyed as he realized he said that out loud and bowed his head.

"Is he okay?"

Sulu was affirmative with his reply.

"What about Uhura?"

Spock was off of the rock and standing beside him, looking about as concerned as Jim had seen him yet.

Chekov exchanged a look with Sulu before glancing over at the two. "She is fine as vell."

There was slight relaxation to Spock's posture. Amused, Jim filed that observation back for later.

"So our engineer is a hamster?"

"Guinea pig," Chekov and Spock replied in unison.

"Guinea pid," Jim repeated. "Our engineer is a guinea pig." He sighed. "You can fix it?"

"Vell, yes, I think, probably..." At Jim's look he grimaced. "Yes."

"Good." Jim clapped his hands together. "Well, then, now that we’ve got that all sorted out, let's head back then."

One thing was for sure. Being a ranger, even out of uniform, was never boring.

Even if Uhura was planning to kill him.
