Readers, what is YOUR take on the topic of safe-sex practices in porn? (Fic porn, filmed porn, whatever.) Does it turn you on/off? What about a distinct LACK of safe-sex practices in your porn? Do you sit there thinking, No condom?? >:( or UNF. I

I tend not to care one way or the other, because it's author's choice and dramatic license.

As an author, it depends on the situation. If there's a need for birth control in a het fic, or if there's reason to doubt one partner's sexual health, then I use it. But most of the time, I'm writing fics in which the characters are in a committed loving relationship, and since the author = Master of the Universe, the idea potential for adultery doesn't shadow those relationships. So there's no need for protection, IMHO, in those situations. Just as I wouldn't feel there was a need for protection for anything beyond birth control if I was in a committed relationship with someone I knew wasn't and wouldn't be cheating on me.

People that linger over the depictions of safe sex are, IMHO, protesting too much. It betrays an inexperience with writing, if not with sexual situations in real life. You don't spend half an hour getting a condom on your guy in medias res because it's a symbol of his love for you that he's even wearing one. That would have me back-buttoning faster than the idea that someone wasn't writing in safe sex measures where I felt they were needed.
