Feel free to skip, I just need to ramble a bit.
I'm quite happy with the series' ending.
It seems that I can keep my fanon and the canon tucked together in one single happy little place, and I can't even tell you how important that is to me after Merlin.
Cho Sun - the more I see her, the more I like her. Scrap that, she's my favorite female character in the series. (I think she's at her best in her cool "ninja"!apparel.)
Ha In Soo :
Yay! Dude, finally!
It took you whole 20 (!!!) episodes to do something good/smart, but you finally came around it!
I keep wishing they had done more with him (I think it's really a waste of character and the actor that they haven't developed In Soo further). So I'm not saying this one act where he goes against his father in order to protect the one he loves fixes everything, but it was much more than I expected.
Ha In Soo's minion number 1 - aw, that was cute; I like how loyal he is.
And Moon Jae Shin, protecting an influential Noron who isn't Sun Joon? Priceless.
I'm glad how the enmity between Jae Shin and Sun Joon slowly turned into friendship. It was a bit unexpected that Sun Joon placed his hand on Jae Shin's when all the four of them were sleeping, but the whole scene conveys well how close the group has become. :D
Yoon Shik/Sun Joon:
It was expected, so I don't have much to say about it.
They're cute.
Sun Joon looks funny with beard and mustache.
Aaaaand that's my very intelligent contribution about the development of their relationship, I'm afraid. *cough*
Yong Ha/Jae Shin:
*mad laugh*
There were many lovely and squee-worthy scenes in the last two episodes. (The hugs, the looks, Jae Shin pulling Yong Ha by the robe,...)
This also means there's a large scoop of YHa/JShin scenes that can be deliciously transformed into a naughty vid. Now I have to decide which of the 5-6 songs that are playing in my mind I want to use. :)
And is it me, or does Jae Shin seem more receptive of Yong Ha's hugs?
I was a bit afraid that the scene where Jae Shin drinks alone would feature a lot of angst over Kim Yoon Shik, but no, it seems that Jae Shin is talking about (or actually to) his dead brother and toasting to him.
And I -need need need- to know what Yong Ha and Jae Shin say to each other after Sun Joon went to meet Kim Yoon Shik, or well, Yoon Hee at this point (after she has been released). They both look so happy...
Although I wasn't too happy with the scene where the future Yong Ha was buying silk with a courtesan and the future Jae Shin was hiccuping over another female rebel, I understand the need to keep the relationship between YH and JS open (or friendship only) in the show.
Also, it's nothing that a short epilogue in form of fic couldn't easily fix (well, depending on what they're saying), so I won't fuss over it. YET.
Yong Ha - this one would deserve its own entry.
He's absolutely my favorite character.
Without going into a long rambling discussion, I'll just say that there are so many layers to him, and the actor does a good job at portraying them as a whole.
I think I've been spoiled by Song Jong Ki and his ability to change facial expression every 1-2 seconds. I'm going to miss that, because in comparison to his depiction of Yong Ha, other faces look somewhat bland and unemotional.
Funny enough, this is the first time where the impression I got of a character and the development I envisioned for it matched almost perfectly the progression Yong Ha had during the series.
There were a few scenes where my first reaction was, "Crap, I wanted to do that, now I can't use it in a fic anymore (because it will look like I'm copying directly)!"
Of course my reaction changed almost immediately into, "Wow, I wanted to use that. And the show used it! It's canon! <3<3<3"
I'm still not sure if this means I had a very stereotyped idea of Goo Yong Ha to begin with, or that the authors of the show actually did a very good job at characterization. Either way, I'm a happy little duck. Or squirrel. Or whatever you want.
As for my future fic (sequel to Assumptions), I have spotted 3-4 places where I could it squeeze in, but I NEED the subtitles.
All in all, unless the translation of the last two episodes will drastically change my perception of what's going on, I'll call myself pretty satisfied with the series.
I think I'll miss the show. ;_;
