It's been a while. I had a couple of dreams in the last week that I wanted to write up, but I can only recall one right now.
I found myself standing outside the door. I'm not sure how I got there, or where there is exactly, but I knew as soon as I walked in where I was. This was my store, EB Games. I hadn't worked there in a lifetime, and while its appearance was drastically different from any other time I'd ever seen it, I still knew.
I walked in and noticed that no one else was around. It must have been open, after all the door was unlocked and it was still early evening. So, I stood there for a moment wondering what was going on while a customer walked in. He immediately recognised me, as did I him. This was Jessie, one of my favourite customers. He always had a cheery attitude and was one of those customers that isn't afraid to offer up a fun challenge. He told me that Gene had mentioned I'd be running the store today 'cos he couldn't come in. I mentioned that I hadn't worked here in ages and no longer had access to the register system.
"No problem." Jessie told me as he handed me a post-it note with everything I needed to know to log in and work the registers. I was still trying to figure out what was going on and why I was even here when Jessie left and other random customers came in. I spent a short amount of time helping them as best as I could. Then, once the rush had died down and the store was once again empty, I decided to step outside.
Of course the door no longer led outside. Instead it lead into a shopping mall. I knew this mall, it was not friendly. Those who have followed my adventures the longest know that this mall is one that is built downwards. That is to say the top floor is built at ground level and the next few floors go underground. As soon as I left, things got a bit fuzzy. Whatever it is that seems to exist near the bottom floor almost knew that I was there. I'm not sure how such a qualifier can be made, or how I knew it, but almost knowing I was around was more than I wanted.
I quickly stepped back into the store where I was, at least temporarily, safe from the beast. But things had changed slightly. The people coming in and out were no longer the typical people browsing the store, sometimes looking for something, sometimes just staring off as they kill time. No, this time the people coming in were searching. It was as though they were all looking for something, but had no idea what it was. Many of them staring emptily at me trying to determine if perhaps I was the thing for which they were searching or if I was just some oddly shaped decoration.
After several minutes of this the people moved on. I had no intentions of taking my chances by sticking around. I ran out the door as soon as I was certain they wouldn't see me. It was time to track down Gene and find out what was going on. I didn't want to believe that he would intentionally set me up in a trap like that, but maybe he could lead me to who did.
