Then we have this gem:

Oh Livejournal-chan ^__^

In other news, I can tell my Philosophy class will be entertaining. After discussing positive rights (rights you are entitled to have someone give you, like education) and negative rights (things you are entitled to have no one take away from you or interfere with, like freedom of speech), we were talking about what it would be like if the Second Ammendment was a positive right, so that the government had to supply you with guns. Of course, it was all just to highlight the difference between positive and negative rights, but a brilliant girl in the front goes "so wait, I'm confused. So is there actually a positive legal right to bear arms?" Yes, the government gives away guns. This same girl then says later that no one is morally responsible for homeless people and that they don't have a positive right to shelter or food. Oh philosophy-chan.

When we discuss that the government is supposed to take care of all its citizens, some guy says "that sounds a lot like socialism to me" in a very wry voice. For a second the entire class froze, before the teacher is like "making sure people have shelter isn't socialism" and the inevitable "what's wrong with socialism?"

If my previous philosophy classes and this first small section are any indication, I will be much amused. Of course, then in my RA class we were talking about building trust with your residents, and one girl said that her RA was doing a great job at that because he made it public that he was very religious so obviously he is trustworthy!
