He was sick. He's a- a paraplegic. [This might be the first time Mello's said that out loud; it certainly doesn't come out easily.] And. Drug interactions're tricky, y'know? I just wanna be sure he's okay. [He's frustrated and sleep-deprived enough that he might start babbling if Momiji asks for details.]
[It's essentially the same as the other Becker Heights apartments, but shelves and countertops are a little lower, doorways and halls a little wider. Mello follows Momiji into the kitchen.]
I'm all right. [A laugh, humorless.] It's hard as fuck to help somebody who doesn't want help.
[He smiles. Ah, memories.] It sure is! [A pause, and he comments offhandedly.] I'm sure it must be even harder if you don't have someone to help you. Other people come, right?
