( RESERVE ) River Tam pt.3/?? mortuary August 19 2009, 06:23:32 UTC
She is basically a poster child for psychological disorders, the damage done to her in the Academy having driven her into an almost constant state of psychosis. Paranoid schizophrenia, PTSD, and thought disorder would be the first things one would notice if they were versed in psychology, she has experienced much trauma during her stay at the Academy and it reflects quite obviously through her behavior. It meshed with her genius making it come out twisted and strange, often being unable to be understood by anyone by River. But despite being deeply troubled by her past trauma, and being generally dangerous, she prefers to play games and pretend she is a sane girl when she is lucid enough too, because in all reality that is what she really wants; to be normal, safe with her brother and not to be a danger to those around her.

There is a personality underneath the madness, a girl who likes to play jacks, chase her friend around the ship, tease her brother about the girl he likes, correct the captain on things. She is social despite being wary to trust, she likes talking to new people even if communication can be difficult and troublesome. Of course her abilities make it easier for her to be a know-it-all, she can sometimes be a little smug about it, she is still as inquisitive as she was when she was as a child, loving to learn about new things and people. There is a girl underneath it all who wants to protect the ones she cares about, to make sure they are safe.

And honestly, she is incredibly attached to her brother Simon, without him she is lost in more than one way. While she can lean on others for support, no one can replace her brother and while she can survive on her own, she has a need to always reconnect with him. He is her protect her, the one who will make her better and she loves him more than anything in the world.

WEAPONS/ABILITIES/ETC: There are a few things to know about River Tam, one she herself is a weapon, two she is very much a psychic could very well kill you with her mind and three, all of that put together with her trauma and psychotic state could be either a blessing or a curse. Depending on the people she is around.

River is a incredibly capable fighter, possessing a surprisingly amount of strength for a girl her size. She is capable of taking out a large room full of armed men on her own with no help what so ever, she possess the innate ability to be able to wield whatever weapon she comes across as if she had been training with it for years basically becoming a master of that sort of weapon and can adapt to battle situations quite easily. For the most part you don't need to worry about her randomly breaking out the kung-fu to kick your ass into the ground, but the chance of her coming to your door with a butcher's knife is still there. She isn't sane after all.

She is also a psychic, and a damn strong one at that, most of what she does/knows/inexplicably understands can be attributed to that, though each instance might fall under a different name depending on the circumstances (innate ability, empathy, precognition, telepathy, chatting with cows...has happened). She can easily see into your head, see what makes you tick, your past, your feelings, your secrets. But sadly she has no choice in the matter, as the bastards in the Academy broke down the doors and barriers, smashing windows and every other thing one could use to block these things out.

Even without her psychic abilities River is highly intuitive and a profound genius, she can pick up something in hours what some could not be able to master in years. However it is often hard to see this genius underneath it all, as she is broken, battered and all the light is smothered by her psychosis. But that doesn't mean if you dig deep enough you may not find it again, she loves to dance and is greatly gifted in it, even her fighting style resembles a dance, so that in itself could be a good place to start.
