NEKU SAKURABA (part two of idek)naikuAugust 19 2009, 05:19:43 UTC
HISTORY: When we first meet Neku, he's in the middle of Shibuya, Japan. His first words are 'shut up!', establishing a tense relationship already. He explains his views on keeping everyone not in his own little world away. "I have my values--so you can keep yours, alright?" However, in the next moment or so, we find him standing in the middle of the street, without a clue to where he is. He finds a pin in his hand, and upon clasping it, it activates--suddenly, he's able to hear every single thought of every single person in the section of Shibuya he's in. Once he's able to deactivate it, his phone rings--oh, hey, junk mail. Delete. ... but it's still there.
"Reach 104. You have 60 minutes. --The Reapers"
There's a sudden pain in his palm, and upon looking at it, there's... a timer there, nestled in his skin. It's counting down the minutes and seconds until time runs out. Neku doesn't even have time to properly break this down, because Noise attack him. He has no choice but to run, and when he crosses to the Statue of Hachiko, still being attacked, but just in time for a redheaded girl to spot him without a partner. She urges him to form a 'pact' with her, and upon doing so, they're able to fight Noise as partners. Shiki tries to strike up a conversation, though Neku quickly drowns her out and leaves--or, tries to. Shiki follows him, trying to explain that they're partners and need to stay together. Once they make it to 104, their mission is cleared and the timers disappear. Each day in his first Reaper's Game is like this; make the mission, let the timer disappear, and black out until the next day. At the end of the second day, they're met by a Reaper by the name of Uzuki, who gives Neku a chance out of the game--if he erases Shiki. To give Neku more incentive, she falsely states that Shiki had been spying the whole time. Neku, of course, remembers that Shiki keeps looking towards her phone. Pointing this out, Uzuki eggs him on, to the point where Shiki simply pleads.
"Don't kill me."
Neku can only respond with an "I have to".
Mr. Hanekoma, thankfully, is able to point out that Uzuki is lying, and goes on to explain that Neku has to trust his partner in order to survive, giving them helpful explanations on how to play the Game to win. This, however, is also when Neku confesses that he has amnesia, and knows nothing about the game or Shibuya.
They also meet Beat and Rhyme on their second day, although Neku's demeanor and claims make Rhyme rethink her words, which causes Beat to protectively lash out at Neku. They don't meet as friends until the fourth day, where all four are together when they receive a relatively easy mission; "Reach Towa Records. No time limit." Noticing how easy the mission is, Beat challenges Neku and Shiki to a race to Towa Records. Since Neku has no desire to race, he and Shiki take their time on going there--to find that Beat and Rhyme actually waited. Much to Beat's dismay, it's found out that it was his idea to wait up for both of them, to "see Phones squirm". Once they enter Towa Records, however, Beat is targeted by Noise, and doesn't notice--although Rhyme does.
In a selfless act, she pushes Beat out of the way, and is erased via Noise. Neku and Shiki protect Beat, as without a partner, he cannot fight the Noise that two Reapers (Uzuki and Kariya) dish out. Mr. Hanekoma saves the day once again, pulling Beat away for his remaining three minutes of life. Neku lashes out at Shiki afterward, saying that this was the reason he didn't make friends; they only expose and hurt you in the end. During the rest of the week, Neku finds out about Shiki's entry fee--her appearance. She doesn't really look trendy and fashionable, but instead plain. At the end of the week, she asks if he'll meet her in front of Hachiko when he's alive again, and that she'll wait for him every single day, as she's been given life. Beat, who had appeared with them, chooses the path of a Reaper. Neku enters the game again; but his entry fee is none other than the very friend he made.
