PSA: Google Buzz

Feb 18, 2010 09:47

Earlier I mentioned that if you scroll down to the footer in gmail there is a tiny link that says "turn off Buzz." However, I just found out that that doesn't actually turn it off completely. People can still see things. To get rid of Buzz completely forever and ever (I think...hopefully), click on Settings at the top, then go to the Buzz tab and click the red "Disable Google Buzz" option with the warning symbol.

I still can't believe how ridiculous this Buzz thing is when it comes to privacy.

ETA: For the record, I don't think this Buzz concept would have necessarily been a bad idea, if people had really had the option of joining or not (and what info would be made public or to "followers" had been clearly spelled out from the beginning). My problem with it is that it was automatically enabled for everyone, even if you "opted-out." As if they couldn't believe that you really meant you didn't want it. I just want simple email, dudes.
