Wait, so...

...Better Off Ted is over? I missed the last episode, but that was the finale? Darn it. I hope it returns.

Also, I'm very excited about a new HBO show called Treme from David Simon (H:LotS, The Wire) about musicians and set in New Orleans. In reading about it, I came across this interesting article about K-Ville (a show I really liked, btw) vs Treme. It describes the differences between making a show for a major network (like FOX) and making a show for a cable channel (like HBO). The interference of network executives in general and what happened when FOX changed bosses mid-production.

The difference between working for a network/studio and working for HBO is essentially this: HBO trusts you to do your job; a network/studio doesn't, and further, a network/studio also presumes and insists that you couldn't possibly do what you do without them; that without them and their notes, the show would not get written or cast or shot or produced or edited or scored properly, if at all. Let me assure you that they, the network and studio executives, are quite deluded about their value and indispensability in this process. I've never yet been on a show that didn't benefit from a hands-off, trust-the-creators approach.

I couldn't help but think of Firefly and Dollhouse while reading that.

dollhouse, the wire, treme, better off ted, hlots, firefly
