1x18 - Duets:
Fine, Show, you win! Break my heart, why don't you! Ok, I think that is the first time that I have ever cried during a Star Trek show ever. In the history of ever. That last scene between Kira and Marritza in the cell, wow. My hat's off to you, Show. That was outstanding.

Loved this exchange.
Dukat: This Bajoran obsession with alleged Cardassian improprieties during the occupation is really quite distasteful.
Sisko: I suppose, if you're Bajoran, so was the occupation.

It's like this show suddenly jumped from being somewhat interesting and amusing to being Really, Really Good. By far, the best episode of the season.

1x19 - In the Hands of the Prophets:
Hmm. I have some conflicted feelings about this finale. Yes, the Bajoran spiritual leader who opposed Keiko's school turned out to be doing it in order to knock off her rival, which made her a conveniently black-and-white villain to dismiss. But that doesn't address the issues she raised. They're in Bajoran space, on a Bajoran-owned space station, just months after the brutal and oppressive occupation of the Bajorans ended...I don't think it's so outrageous to have a little sensitivity to the Bajoran's faith. I'm not saying Keiko should have been forced to teach Bajoran religion or that she should have been forced to stop teaching certain subjects, but the fact that the Federation wasn't even willing to discuss the matter or any compromises and dismissed the concerns out of hand was a little arrogant and presumptuous. Eh, whatever. I don't feel like thinking about that too much. *handwave* It was interesting, though.

Ok, season one finished. Bring on season two.

Also, I just deleted Battlestar Galactica from my DV-R recording schedule. It was a sad thing. I need more space shows to console me.

bsg, deep space nine
