Banned Book Week in the US
September 27 - October 4

Because of the dedication and passion of librarians & teachers, most books that are challenged do not get banned (although some do). Reports of challenges, and the occasional book burning, are sent to the ALA like a bat signal.

If anyone is seriously afraid that a penguin book is going to make their child gay, it's probably a better idea to ban them as parents.

I always feel sorry for the kids of the sort of people out yelling at librarians that Harry Potter if "of the devil" since you just know that this sort of crazy gets even worse behind closed doors.

I don't get the logical leap that allows them to believe that they should be able to make decisions about what their child is exposed to, but that the book needs to be gone from the shelves so that other people can't make that decision.
You with the silly logic. Obviously, it is because they know what is Right. And having knowledge is of the devil.

Btw, it's not just challenges to public libraries. It's also to school libraries and school reading curriculums.
