WHAT THE WHAT.

WHUT. Oh, Harry Potter fandom, why must you keep failing so hard? First using "miscegenation" as a sexual kink prompt, now using Kristallnacht for the basis of a fun RPG. Here's a good rule of thumb for anyone creating fun fannish things (fic prompts/challenges, RPG, etc.), if you're using words that have to do with the Holocaust, Nazis, or the history of racism...STOP!

I thought jennem's translation of their FAQ was pretty accurate:
Translation? Yeah. We know we're co-opting one of the worst tragedies of the human experience for our own pleasure. Like, on PURPOSE. We also know that a lot of people -- like, fandom Jews -- might find it offensive. We thought of that. But, in the end, we really don't care. Like, really really don't care. Because, we're going to do it anyway. And, changing it to a less offensive setting and a less offensive name wouldn't be as much fun for us. We need to co-opt it in order for it to be fun for us. Also, we really are nice people. Even though we plan on co-opting one of the events that started a genocide and one of the worst tragedies in the human experience. We really are nice people, even though we're doing that solely for our pleasure and our entertainment. We swear!

Also, as everyone keeps pointing out, Yom Ha'Shoah, the Holocaust Remembrance Day was just yesterday. For cryin' out loud! It's like the fail cherry on top of an extra big fail sundae.

At the very least, it's tacky & in poor taste. Why do some people not have these internal sensors that alert them to this fact beforehand??
