crazy climate / day
the weather is crazy, in one of its moods. yesterday, it was spring-like -- blue skies and sunny. this morning, when i left the apartment it was warm and raining. a few hours later, the temperature dropped 20 degrees. it started snowing and then it's freezing cold out. the pavement is all iced and slippery.
on another note, i was called for jury duty and had to make an appearance today. funny, how everyone thought i was going to be away the whole day and several days/weeks, in case i get to be a juror at some high profile case. my boss was worried that i won't be able to work. i was extremely anxious and agitated that i will be out of work for several weeks that i won't get paid. my friends were worried that they weren't going to see me for a long time. fern took me out for burger and beers last night, as a temporary send-off.
well, i got to court an hour and a half late ( i went to the wrong courthouse, when i was supposed to be at the supreme court, in addition to being delayed due to security check and surrendering my camera phone for the day). when i found the room where i was supposed to be in and after the court clerk ended her yackety-yack of a speech, i went up immediately to her and asked for postponement (until 20 june).
the conversation went like this:
court clerk: yes?
me: can i request for postponement?
court clerk: sure, i wouldn't want you to miss classes. you are still in school, right?
me: ummm, no ... well, okay. yes!
court clerk: ok sweetie, when do you want to come back?
me (picking a random date off the calendar she shoved right in front of me): june .. june sounds good ... uuummm, the 20th?
court clerk: ok, done. see ya then! (her voice all sugar and spice happy)
i was out of there in a flash. with umbrella in tow, i ran to the subway and went back to my apartment, purposely bypassing and 'forgetting' to go back to work.
it was 10:30 am ... my day was done at court .. so much for worries and temporary goodbyes!
