Cally was spread out on her bed, chewing on the end of a pen. The application for pre-enrollment in the fleet was sitting in front of her, and it was giving her a bit of a tough time. She couldn't exactly mention the zombie thing, for one, as well as pretty much any of the peculiarities of Fandom life

Nadia might be practicing blending her words together like a native English speaker.

"Signing my life away," Cally said, not looking up yet. "For a year, at least."

". . . An actual year, or a year-in-five-days year?"

[sogothcally]

"Well, it'd be after I graduate," Cally said. "Other than basic, which they might throw at me during a break or something."

"Ahhhh. Dental boot camp?"

[sogothcally]

"Military boot camp," Cally said. "No dentistry involved."

"Not even if you kick someone's teeth out?"

Cally instantly slapped a hand over her mouth.

"Ow ow ow ow ow!"

"It would require a good dentist, though,"

[sogothcally]

"Yeah, it would," Cally said. "But... mmmph. Owwwwww."

"Sorry. So you're joining the space ship squad?"

[sogothcally]

"Not exactly," Cally said. "I'm more joining the 'fixes the spaceships for the spaceship squad' squad."

". . . Is that better, or worse?"

"It means I'm gonna spend most of my time cleaning the floors and walls, really," Cally said.

". . . Okay, there has to be a better way into dental school than that."

[sogothcally]

"You got a suggestion?" Cally said. "Cause it's the only way I'll get the money, I think."
