[It's late. Around midnight late, when most people are asleep. And Lightning, despite being most people, is also asleep with her Riolu curled into the crook of her neck and her Rapidash sleeping nearby. So. If she didn't turn it on and Sen is asleep, who turned on the video? Well, you may note that the camera is partially blocked by a shard of ( Read more... )

...Newborns.

[Someone is now regretting the fact that he always sleeps next to his Pokégear.]

Sen didn't make this much noise when he hatched.

[And someone is looking slightly apologetic. If she'd known he was going to hatch at night, she'd have turned off her gear.]

Some are naturally quiet. And a bird that size must need big and regular meals to be able to fly. Does it seem hungry?

[Sen, quiet? Only in comparison to the bird. And he's just rubbing himself against Lightnings side as she steps closer to check on him.] No. I think he just wanted my attention and this was the only way to get it.

I guess rubbing his head against your arm would have been painful for you. [He yawns.] Now that he knows screeching works, he'll do it again, unless you train it out of him.

His mother did it sometimes, and it didn't hurt. [A glance at the bird again, rubbing the smooth side of his beak into her side, then she catches that yawn.]

I plan to, before he wakes anyone else up.

He might not be certain of his strength yet. Are their bodies dull or sharp at birth?

That's my own fault. I always keep the Pokégear open next to my pillow, and I sleep lightly in the first place. Sane people should be fine.

Dull. Like an old knife, really. [A really old knife. But it'll get sharp. She's sure of that.]

I'm not sure there's any of those in Johto, Cecil.

They have to sharpen themselves, on rocks, then?

The Warrior of Light is... [Wait, no.] Squall can be... [Still no.] ...Give me a few days. I can probably find someone.

Probably. I haven't seen his mother do it, though. I can't be sure until it happens.

[Nod. See, she was expecting that.] Don't waste your energy looking. Some things just aren't worth searching for.

Perhaps the Pokémart has items created to help Skarmories sharpen themselves. That would save him the trouble of finding suitable rocks.

I'm rather certain Miss Kisa is sane, and she'd be worth it.

I'll check when I get into Violet tomorrow. Finding a whetstone might work, though.

[Blink. Blink. ...tiiiiiny smile.] She would.

Would they have any? The only blades I've seen are kitchen knives and those compact survival knives.

And everyone I've talked to seem more stable than some of the locals, such as that gentleman living by himself on route 30.

Those knives have to be sharpened, too. A dull blade isn't going to do you much good.

[Nod. That's an...understatement.] No kidding.

That sounds like a great oversight, considering their 'no weapons' policy.

Yet this world seems extremely tolerant of them. At the very least, the lady calling herself 'Mom' should not live by herself. Her kindness could easily be abused.

[Pause, and a frown.] People can do damage with a kitchen or a survival knife, but compared to a weapon a person is used to handling? Most people wouldn't think to use one.

[Or she could be abused herself; there's one person Lightning keeps a wary eye on.] Considering how quickly she shoves you from the house, I don't think that's much of an issue.
