For every soldier who gets a story in the paper, there are so many who are known only to grieving family and friends. For every Medgar Evers, there are many families that still mourn, a story that is still told, and tears still shed all these years later (mine included). For every Chaney/Goodman/Schwerner, there are thousands of Johnsons, Smiths, Williams and others we don't have pages for on Wikipedia.
They fought for freedom and justice for ALL. Some in foreign lands, some right here in America. Some fought fascism overseas, only to be murdered in their uniforms when they got home. Every ounce of blood that was spilled in my behalf worldwide will never be taken for granted, and will never be forgotten. I am grateful and I am blessed, to be on this side of the planet and this side of history.
Equal justice is still elusive, but it is more equal than it once was.
