It took Chris a little while to track Maxxie down, but he managed it. He was good at that now, ferreting out little details and finding the ratholes in this fucking shitheap of a ruined country. 'Cause everyone who hadn't learned how to hide or how to fight was probably long dead by now. Shit, most of the people who had were dead too.
Which was why he was here. He would've liked to have been able to lie and say he was here for a reunion, but the fact of the matter was that it was better for Maxxie not to have him around. Fuck knows it would've been better for Jal. Still, it didn't matter if they hadn't spoken for weeks or for years, Maxxie was one of his best friends and he was definitely one of hers. It wasn't right to leave him in the dark about something this important, even if it did leave him wandering around like an idiot, trying to pretend he belonged here and had some idea of where he was going.
