Summary - Lily can’t shake free of the mistakes she's made, the wrongs she's suffered, and something will have to give soon.
Author's Notes - Told using the prompt Gunplay from my kink_bingo claim card, which can be found here. This ficlet is intended to be a snapshot, a single scene of character study for a Lily who hasn't led the charmed life we'd expect her to, considering who her father is.

Lily couldn't breathe. The dreams - nightmares - had woken her like they always did, and in the twilight between being awake and being asleep, her muscles were docile, her body unresponsive to her brain's commands. She couldn't breathe.

The feeling was fleeting, and Lily caught her breath in a rush, grateful of the cold air she was gulping down as she sat up and swung her legs out of the bed. Catching sight of herself in the mirror, Lily reached for her wand. She couldn't go downstairs like this, and as she stifled a yawn, she healed the bruise over her left eye and the cut on her lip.

As she stood up her joints complained, her ribs joining the chorus. It felt like one, maybe two, of the curved bones was broken, but Lily was old hat at mending bones. Once upon a time she'd wanted to be a Healer, had started to learn all the spells. But no one as broken as her could ever claim to heal other people in good faith, and she'd given up on that dream just like she'd given up on all the others.

Every dream: to be successful, to be loved, to be more than just her famous parents. Each and every one had melted away, lost in her first taste of heartbreak and never truly recovered. Twenty five, and still living with her parents. Still under their shadows, but Lily liked it there. In the half-light no one could see her, no one could judge her.

Her clothes were all a size too big, but Lily liked them that way. She held her trousers up with thick belts, and her tops covered her skin completely. No one ever told her she looked pretty, but if no one ever gave her that compliment, it could never be ripped away from her.

Her absence at dinner would surely have been noticed, but Lily had her lie already in place: going to the movies with a work friend, a piece of parchment transfigured into the stub. Her parents didn't need to know she'd been with Robin again, and with her bruises healed, there was nothing to give her away.

It was nothing like the lifestyle her Uncle Charlie lived. It wasn't even a relationship. Robin used her to rid himself of his frustrations at a low-end job and a boss who hated him, exorcising out his own shortcomings by highlighting hers with every word, every blow. She used him to reaffirm her own self-hatred. Robin treated her just as Draco had and yet better; Robin had never shown her any affection to start with, so there had been nothing to take away the first time his fist connected with her face.

There was bondage and domination, but no safe-word. There was heavy play, but no limits. On good days, Lily wondered why she was punishing herself for something that hadn't been her fault. On bad days, she realised she deserved everything and more, for being such a stupid little girl.

On her worst days, Lily filled the chamber of Robin's gun back up with bullets, in the vain hope he might take the scene right up to that moment, his finger itching on the trigger, and then topple them both over the edge.
