Tossing the parchment down in disgust, Harry brought his hands up to his face and massaged his fingers into his temples slowly. "In what parallel universe is this pile of dragon dung an acceptable homework assignment?"

Harry looked up in time to see Scorpius' cheeks colour, and it gave him a tiny thrill. There wasn't much fun to be had in a school full of adolescents, but tormenting Malfoy still brought him just as much joy as it had when he were a student. The fact it was Malfoy mark two was even better - there was no history, and Harry could make it up as he went along.

"I asked you a question, boy. What made you think this was acceptable?"

"It was the best I could do!" Scorpius managed to sound defiant, but his hunched shoulders proved to Harry that he had the upper hand.

"I don't want to hear simpering excuses! This is just another in a long line of assignments that waste the parchment they're written on."

Scorpius' head dropped, and Harry knew he should probably stop. In the back of his mind, he knew that treating Scorpius as his personal punching bag wasn't right, and said more about his own failings than it did Scorpius'. But Scorpius, like his father, got under Harry's skin. Harry knew rationally that following the boy silently around the school, just waiting for him to make a mistake, was wrong, but it didn't stop him doing it. He'd seen more of Scorpius' life than he reckoned even Scorpius' parents had. Harry had seen the fumbles in classrooms with other boys, the fights and the arguments with friends and enemies alike. Harry had seen Scorpius at his weakest, curled up in the Quidditch stands sobbing his heart out, and it made him feel powerful.

Sometimes, Harry suspected that Scorpius knew he was being watched so closely, but he never did anything about it. Scorpius never told the other teachers that he suffered for every mistake at Harry's hands, got the blame for everything that went wrong in the classroom, whether it was his fault or not. And it was easier for Harry to take Scorpius' silence as consent, as an admission of guilt, than to think about the kind of person that this made him, validating himself by humiliating one of his students. Besides, the Malfoys had got off lightly after the war; Scorpius deserved to know some real hardship, like the people who had died at his father's hands.

"I'll do it again."

"Don't waste my time, Malfoy. You treat my classroom like a hotel, waltzing in whenever you please." That was a lie - Scorpius was always on time. "When you bother to hand in a piece of work, it's either illegible or incorrect." Another lie - Scorpius' handwriting was perfect, and he handed in every piece of work on time. "In fact, I can't see why you continue to come to these lessons, considering you clearly have no aspirations for yourself beyond dropping out of school and languishing at home at the tax payers' expense. Unless you come here solely to annoy me?"

"No, sir." Scorpius' voice was quiet, barley above a whisper, and it drew Harry's eyes up to his face. Scorpius was still blushing, but his eyes were closed now. Harry looked Scorpius up and down, catching sight of a slight bulge in Scorpius' trousers. It could be nothing, just a trick of the light or the way Scorpius was standing. But it could be something, and the thought of Scorpius hard made Harry's insides churn.

Scorpius hadn't reported him so far, and Harry decided to push it further. Even if Scorpius did talk, who would the world believe; a Malfoy, or Harry Potter. "Are you enjoying this, Malfoy? Is the truth refreshing, having someone remind you what a waste of space you are?"

Scorpius blushed harder, dropping his head even lower as his cheeks burned. It was all Harry could do not to crow. The feeling of power over this boy was intoxicating, was making Harry act out of character. He wasn't stupid enough to think he had no dark side, but he'd never let it control him before, never let it come out and shape his interactions in the way it did with Scorpius. Harry couldn't explain what it was that drew him to Scorpius, made him want to possess Scorpius wholly and maybe even break him in two, but whatever it was it was real and demanding.

Standing up, Harry held Scorpius' essay up and incinerated it with a flick of his hand. "I can't be bothered to read any more of your drivel, so lines or an essay isn't a fitting punishment. No, I think the only way you'll learn is through a punishment as dull and repetitive as you are. Go and stand in that corner, and don't even think about moving until I give you permission."

As Scorpius turned and began to walk to the corner of the classroom, Harry went for all or nothing, pushing Scorpius the rest of the way to see whether he'd be able to put his infatuation to good use, or refocus it on someone more accommodating.

"Take off your clothes while you're at it, Malfoy."

Scorpius was facing away from him, so Harry didn't have to hide his smile when Scorpius reached up and shrugged off his robe. Mind already racing with possibilities, Harry found himself falling in love with teaching all over again.
